Select UK/Extensive EU Tour Dates Announced Ahead of ArcTanGent + Burn It Down Festival

Belgian alt-rock band The Guru Guru are pleased to reveal the official video for their pacy new polemic ‘Make Less Babies’ which is released on 15th August 2023 on all good streaming services.

The track is the latest to be taken from their new album Make (Less) Babies which will be released on 27th October 2023 via Swiss label Humus Records in collaboration with French label A Tant Rêver Du Roi Records.

The album is available to preorder now: https://theguruguru.bigcartel.com/

Commenting on the track and video, which sees vocalist Tom “the Bomb” Adriaenssens behind an altar preaching tongue-in-cheek tips to a crowd at the 'Global Disaster Avoidance Convention' on how to save the world, Adriaenssens says: “Imagine you’re suddenly a guru. You’re being asked to speak in front of millions of people, televised worldwide, at a conference for saving the planet. You have 20 minutes to make the PowerPoint presentation. Make it worth our while. Don’t forget about the fact that you’re super crabbed about just becoming a guru and everything.”

“I thought of the first version of 'Make Less Babies' when I took my dogs to the park and it was full of trash. Litter p*sses me off. Add to that my dogs eat up anything remotely food-like. All I thought of was the tempo and the lyrics. When I’m frustrated, I become sarcastic. This song could be a modern take on the 10 Commandments. A modern Guru doesn’t command anything though—they share suggestions, tips. Suggestions and tips that could help people save the earth and humanity a little, but totally in the wrong order, not covering everything.”

“Lots of the words are just saying “don’t be a d*ck” but more friendly. Since our band is called The Guru Guru, I felt we needed more guru-like messages providing insights that are—though incomplete and sometimes debatable—helpful to the world. Even though there are many economical objections to be made to the ‘make less babies’ argument, don’t we need a planet to build and sustain that economy on, in whichever shape?”

Happily dealing in deep express art rock since 2012, The Guru Guru combine feverishly angular guitars with off-kilter poly-rhythms, all complimented by Adriaenssens’ trademark erratic and unhinged vocals. While their influences are drawn from the likes of Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, The Mars Volta, SOULWAX, The Jesus Lizard, and Andy Kaufman, the indie-math/psycho-noise rulebooks are decidedly torn apart, resulting in turbulent songs that somehow seem to develop into wriggling earworms.

Forthcoming new album Make (Less) Babies was recorded by The Guru Guru at Farrm Studio, Hasselt with assistance from Jasper Vanden Bossche. The album was mixed by guitarist Emiel Van Den Abbeele and mastered by Laurens Grossen Mastering. Lead single ‘Lotta Tension’ and follow up 'Saint-Tropez' were released earlier this year and received early support from PROG Magazine, Noizze, Bring The Noise, Soundsphere Magazine, and more.

Recently gracing the stage at PORTALS festival in London, the band will be appearing at Burn It Down and ArcTanGent Festival in the UK later this year, with select UK live dates and extensive EU tour dates just announced, including a sting supporting Dutch alt-rock icons De Staat.

More info:
Building on the band's addictive formula, Make (Less) Babies leads listeners further down their twisted rabbit hole—loaded with stories from the road, it’s a savage critique of society and climate change, packed with controversy, social themes, humour and self-deprecation.

Having learned a lot from previous album sessions with producer Wouter Vlaeminck (Raketkanon, Kapitan Korsakov) and their recent EP, this time around the band took matters into their own hands and wrote, composed, rehearsed, recorded, produced and mixed everything themselves.

“Jan provided his studio in Hasselt, friends let us use some awesome gear, we rented an apartment in Hasselt for a week and we recorded the third album together live. We recorded all the instruments in 2 days,” says Adriaenssens of their approach to the new record. “Yoran—our live sound engineer—came over to help, along with a handful of other friends we work with. I think we can say that all these people who help us became our family. A family of people we’ve been working with for the past 10 years. And it feels good.”

Praised for their live performances, The Guru Guru are a must-see live act—with palpable, electric energy oozing from the stage, vocalist Tom the Bomb balances on the verge of theatrical psychosis. The band have made their mark playing across Europe sharing stages with the likes of BRUTUS, Raketkanon, Kapitan Korsakov, Birds in Row, as well as appearing at festivals such as ArcTanGent, Portals, MAMA festival, Ment, Monkey Week, Rock Herk, Sziget and Pukkelpop. They have played over 300 domestic and international shows in the last 6 years.
