Our favourite outsiders in German punk duo The Deadnotes are today pleased to reveal preorders and details of their forthcoming Forever Outsider EP, which is set for release on 26th May 2023.

The EP will be released on vinyl and is also available in a bundle with a t-shirt and tour ticket, with the OUTSIDERS UNITE! Tour 2023 seeing the duo grace Germany, Czech Republic, and Austria this September.

Hot on the heels of a run of UK co-headline tour dates with Watford anarcho-punks Nervus earlier this year, The Deadnotes are also pleased to announce their own August/September 2023 UK headline tour dates with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).

Following on from the EP’s previously-released lead single ‘Downward Spiral’ and subsequent bop ‘Forever Outsider’, two further as yet unreleased songs—‘Dog Years’ and ‘A Glade Inside The Vines’ feat. German artist Shitney Beers—complete the tracklisting and amp up the anticipation for fans.

To celebrate launching preorders of the EP, the band have revealed a live session video for EP track ‘A Glade Inside The Vines’ which is also out now on all good DSPs.

"We wanted to have a feature guest on a song for a very long time, but it had to fit 100%” says Jakob Walheim (bass & guitar). “With ‘A Glade Inside The Vines’, Shitney Beers immediately came to our minds. When I heard the first mix with Maxi’s part included, it made me cry. It feels like the song was meant to be that way and just written for this combo!"

Lead single ‘Forever Outsider’ was a powerful line in the sand from the band and set the scene for the tone of this EP—The Deadnotes are taking ownership of their outsider status and appealing to all fellow loners to join them in forming a community. The duo are manifesting their race for freedom from creative constraints and showing that it's more than ok if you don't fit into a certain genre or category as a band.

"We worked, wrote, arranged and produced so much to finish these songs, more than on any other release before, without much questioning and overthinking,” continues Walheim, who completes the duo with Darius Lohmüller (vocals & guitar). “Is this really us? Will it be heard by our musical contemporaries and fans? Is there a break referring to our previous history? We deliberately didn’t think about these questions. We wanted to do exactly what felt right in the moment and create our own space as outsiders. For us, this EP is like the first release with a completely new band."

A punk record featuring a children's choir, a string quartet, brass, saxophone and more—with the complexity of the arrangements and instrumentation, The Deadnotes boldly go beyond the boundaries of both the indie and the pop world. In doing so, they let themselves be guided by their intuition. The result: a liveliness and authenticity that they have fought tooth and nail for. Not only lyrically, but also sonically, the pair show that when opposites meet and come together, something truly special can happen.
