Announce special "in the round" performance at New York's Le Poisson Rouge on 7th June

The Antlers share new single "I Was Not There", out now digitally via Transgressive

The song was produced and engineered by Peter Silberman and mixed by frequent Antlers collaborator Nicholas Principe. In addition to Michael Lerner’s drums, and Silberman’s vocals, piano and other instrumentation, the track also features Logan Coale (The National, NOW Ensemble, Taylor Swift) on upright bass.

Peter Silberman says of the song:

"Perhaps counterintuitively, “I Was Not There” is about the elusive experience of complete presence. Across three scenes, the song describes fleeting moments of clarity and wholeness, and the accompanying feeling of leaving yourself."

The Antlers are Peter Silberman and Michael Lerner. In 2021 the band released their first album in seven years titled Green to Gold, a bucolic record which Pitchfork described as “a post-rock orchestra playing around a campfire... the sound of hard-won peace of mind, rendered in the lightest brushstrokes.”

The release was followed by the Losing Light EP, a reimagining of four tracks from Green to Gold. Peter Silberman has also co-produced the recent Wild Pink album ILYSM, marking Silberman’s first foray into producing a record for another artist outside of the context of The Antlers or his solo work.

Since last autumn, The Antlers have been releasing stand-alone singles Ahimsa and a Brett Arnold reworking of Green to Gold.

Acclaim for Green to Gold:

“Peter Silberman’s half-whispered vocal melodies are more accessible than ever. The lullaby-ish, feathery dreampop of ‘Wheels Roll Home’ and ‘Solstice’ actually sounds slightly insubstantial at first, but on repeated listens their soft mantras seduce, helped by a sweet guitar motif on the title track and a beautifully woozy sax on the irresistibly resigned lament ‘It Is What It Is’.” Uncut – 8/10

Green To Gold is a soft, supple study in dreamy repose… A glistening hymn to homecoming… These are balms of a most rarefied kind.” Record Collector – 4 stars ****

“There’s real beauty here... Silberman marries accessibility with gentle boundary-pushing to create his own thoughtful world.” MOJO – 4 stars ****

Green To Gold feels like the opening of a new chapter... Country-inflected guitars and handsome flushes of brass and strings imbue standouts like ‘Wheels Roll Home’ and ‘It Is What It Is’ with a gorgeous warmth, while Peter’s newly-tranquil voice suits the most reflective lyrical material of his career down to the ground.” DIY – 9/10

“Hushed, contemplative and pastoral songs... An enveloping beauty creates a lovely sense on peace and harmony.” Sunday Times

Green to Gold captures the sound of the early morning, a walk on the beach, a lazy late-summer evening.” The i Paper
