Today, South Carolina’s rising star Taylor McCall has released The Porch Sessions EP, which is a stripped back, tender and intimate take on four songs from his critically acclaimed latest album Mellow War.

McCall says, “The Porch Sessions are an intimate batch of outdoor recordings done with myself and Sean McConnell. The tracks are alternate versions from my second LP Mellow War. I wanted to break down the artificial veils of the studio and bring the listeners onto my porch.”

To coincide with the release, McCall has released the new video for ‘Rolling Stoned Again’ which features candid footage from the recording of the Porch Sessions.

Following a recent trip to the UK to play at the legendary Cambridge Folk Festival, McCall is set to embark on his first headlining US tour starting this weekend and continuing throughout September. The Mellow War Tour’s first stop is Mobile, AL and will continue through Dallas, Denver, Nashville, New York, and more. A full list of dates are below with more information available here.

McCall’s album Mellow War was produced by McCall and Sean McConnell (Michael Franti and Wade Bowen) and is largely inspired by McCall’s late grandfather who also features on the album cover as a young man in Vietnam. It follows the release of his debut album Black Powder Soul released in 2021.

McCall shares, “Mellow War pays homage to my late grandpa. The album cover is him in Vietnam. These are songs that are sort of letters to home that I imagined he might have sent. My grandpa was a life inspiration for me; it was bigger than just music. The songs are a tribute to everything he stood for and everything he taught me.”

The album also features the swampy ‘Tide Of Love’, the tender ‘Rest On Easy’, which is a tribute to those we’ve lost, and the title track ‘Mellow War’, which was the original work that set the tone for the new album and perfectly demonstrates McCall’s spellbinding and unique mix of blues-fuelled Americana. Watch the video McCall directed for it here.

McCall made his UK debut supporting Robert Plant presents Saving Grace in 2023 and was invited back as a special guest on a second run of dates in March this year, which saw McCall play at London’s Palladium.

Having has built a strong fanbase since discovering his voice in his late teens and at age 17, the songs that he put together for his debut EPs were testament to his talent as both musician and songwriter: with ‘Jericho Rose’, ‘Quartermaster’, ‘Waccamaw Drive’, ‘The Devil Wants To Dance Again’, being captivating tracks garnering his 26 million plays to date.

In the years since, the South Carolina native and avid outdoorsman and fisherman has crafted a sound that effortless matches his unique musicianship with his powerful and resonating voice.

The Porch Sessions EP serves as another poignant chapter in his journey showing that McCall possess a depth of character that transcends his age and a soul beyond his years.
