Swedish Avant-Garde Metal Mystics Lamashtu Join Forces with Wormholedeath for Längtan Reissue

Swedish avant-garde symphonic metal phenomenon Lamashtu proudly announces their signing with Wormholedeath Records for the reissue of their critically acclaimed fourth album, Längtan ("Longing"). The album is set for a re-release on December 13th, 2024, marking a new chapter in the band's mystic and powerful journey.

"The incarnation of Lamashtu is happy to be part of the Wormholedeath family," said the band in a statement. " We are proud of the album that we have made and all that it represents. It’s an honor to be able to spread the word further than ever before. We are confident that we have landed in a family that is equally embracing of the mysteries of life and arts as we are. Thank you!"

About Längtan ("Longing"): The Soundtrack to a Dark Saga

Längtan, originally released in 2024, showcases the band's evolution, advancing their symphonic foundation while introducing compelling progressive elements. The album tells the haunting tale of Joar, continuing the saga first introduced in Tro ("Faith"). This rich narrative continues and explores the world of Eli world which starts in ancient Mesopotamia. Throughout the saga she encounters strange and mysterious creatures, bringing about a transformative journey together with demons and Joar by her side. This concept aligns with Lamashtu’s dark, mythical themes, centered on the demon goddess Lamashtu—patroness of the malformed and the wicked.

The story of Eli, which runs through both Tro and Längtan, was further expanded in a Swedish fantasy book, Eli. Available in over 50 libraries across Sweden, the novel marks the first of a planned trilogy.

Who is Lamashtu?

Lamashtu is a symphonic metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden, founded in 2015. Their music, sung in Swedish, combines heavy, atmospheric metal with complex symphonic arrangements. Central to the band’s identity is Lamashtu, a demon goddess and patroness of malformed creatures, whose mythos is deeply interwoven into their albums and stage performances.

Lamashtu’s story begins with her defeat of the god Curchanus, from whom she stole divine power, igniting a vendetta with the goddess Desna. This lore is presented across their discography, starting with their debut album Fallna Själar ("Fallen Souls"), which established their signature sound. Written and recorded in just a month, this album was driven by the importance of bass and a desire to create something unique.

In 2018, their second album, V.A.N.S.I.N.N.E.T. ("Insanity"), was released through Älvsång Production, refining their style with the addition of more "demons" who joined the band. Their third album, Tro ("Faith"), marked a turning point, introducing more melodic and symphonic elements while telling the story of Eli, a saga expanded through a standalone book.

The band’s fourth album, Längtan ("Longing"), added progressive touches while continuing the storyline, this time focusing on Joar, introduced in the tale of Eli. Despite some members departing, the current lineup of seven "demons" — Empusa, Ammit, Avarshina, Paimon, Azura, Purson, and Janus — continue to spread the dark, powerful message of Lamashtu’s reign, seeking to inspire mortals with strength, passion, and purpose.

The Call to the Mortals

As Lamashtu’s reign continues, they seek not just listeners, but fellow wanderers—mortals ready to embrace strength, passion, and purpose within the darkness. Their reissue of Längtan through Wormholedeath will mark a significant new chapter, one where their music and mythology can reach new shores, summoning more followers into their shadowy fold.
