State Of You have released the latest of a new batch of tracks which will comprise their forthcoming ‘On A Knife’s Edge’ EP, which is set for release 24th Jan 2025 via Silent Cult. ‘Two of a Kind’ captures the sheer rage and inner turmoil that can result from a relationship breaking down. Says vocalist Steve Sitkowski: “When you are in the middle of a break-up it feels like your whole world is crumbling and the person that was your anchor has turned into your enemy . When people argue, they rarely listen to the other side of the argument . It’s very much a “fuck you - you hurt me” situation. This song is coming from the standpoint of someone who has been a punching bag for a long time. I’ve had breakups where it’s felt like my confidence has been severed at the spine but you do get through it. So this is a sad love story that doesn’t end well. Plus that chorus is dying for a sweaty venue full of people screaming the lyrics back at me.”
‘On A Knife’s Edge’ sees Sitkowski relishing in a more melodic vocal whilst still retaining the abrasive exclamations that made State Of You’s self-titled debut EP so delectable. The first single to be revealed from the forthcoming second EP was the visceral ‘Under The Wire’, the music video for which has already topped 15,000 views. That track, which Metal Hammer described as “Bursting with piss and vinegar,” and pushing “their punk-inclined sound towards the more chunky, thundering realms of Cancer Bats and The Bronx,” addressed Sitkowski facing emotions head-on following a late ADHD diagnosis. Elsewhere on the new collection, the band delve into the pressures of modern day life (‘Cut The Rope’), saying goodbye to “rockstar” tropes (‘To The Core’), striving for society-pressured perfection (‘Double-Barrelled’) and a fluid relationship with alcohol ‘Which Way The Water Flows’.
State Of You began their infiltration of the UK underground in 2022 with the release of their debut EP, cultivating their very own brand of heavy music which splices hardcore stylings with a vibrant sense of rock n roll. Plaudits from Metal Hammer, Rock Sound, Distorted Sound and more followed and the band also received radio play on the likes of Kerrang! Radio Fresh Blood.
The members of State Of You have a shared goal of expelling personal demons and provoking discussion around issues in the world today. Their number features members of much-loved underground UK bands including Outcry Collective, Polar and Hildamay, with their instant chemistry apparent as soon as the five of them first convened in a practice space. Inspired by such artists as Every Time I Die, Cancer Bats, The Bronx, Beartooth and Underoath, State Of You craft lay their tracks down with Oz Craggs, of UK underground heroes Feed The Rhino, who has worked on production duties for all their material to date.
Having toured with Young Guns and played a handful of their own shows already, State Of You have announced a special EP release party at The Black Heart in London on 25th January 2025. Tickets on sale now.
