SPOTLIGHT ON: The Beaches - Blame My Ex (2023)

The 2023 sophomore album “Blame My Ex” from Toronto Canada’s The Beaches is nothing short of extraordinary!

It's confident, it's defiant, it's introspective, it's resilient, it's defeated. There are lows, there are highs, there's boredom, there are regrets, there's camaraderie and there's celebration. There's men-hating, there's love. It's big rock bangers, dance floor fillers, and whimsical, dreamy psychedelia. It's full of big-time attitude, sparkling glamour, whimsical naivety, and melodic heartbreak. It channels blame and looks for love in all the wrong places. It takes you to a euphoric place where nothing matters before it leaves you crying in the shower. It tackles mental health struggles and bad breakups alongside feel-good anthems.

From start to finish, this album delivers an emotional rollercoaster that feels raw and real. It's one of the most perfect, complete albums I've ever heard. Each track brings its own unique flavour, making the entire record a treasure trove of diverse sounds and themes. Every song brings something special. The Beaches are the very definition of talent. A random find that's become a staple in my heavy rotation.

The perfect soundtrack to a Sad Girl Summer, being glamorously reckless, falling for all the wrong guys just so you can cry about it later. Absolutely perfect.

Key tracks: Blame Brett, Everything is Boring

Amy

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
