Joy says of "Death":

"If you don’t love anything, nothing can kill you.  But good luck with that.

An original life?

(The audience erupts in laughter)

The life of the mechanic, accountant, doctor, artist, rebel, lover, fighter, recluse, sober, drunk, Pius, fit, unwell et al.  They have been lived and infinite number of times.  Maybe the same words were said in the same order.

I knew you were going to say that, I heard it before. It’s all in Pi.

Where does the cliche begin and end, can I fit a new one in?  Elvis is dead and people seem to believe it now.  Elvis just posted a photo of his dog!  Jesus.

I can’t remember who said empathy is knowing that when a flea lands on a dogs back, it creates a sonic boom!  Whoever it was the first to be right.  ever.

What a clown!  Why are you so angry all the time?  You still believe in God?  I guess finding a way to be still while the violence of the cosmos erupts around you is impressive.  Or… maybe… it’s cute, not impressive.  I can’t do it.  I lay awake and I can’t do it.  My face has changed, but my name is the same, and not in a good way.

If you don’t love anything nothing can kill you.

But good luck with that."

Praise for Joyeria:

"a wildly accomplished release from an intentionally enigmatic songwriter." - Crack Magazine

“Part Stephen Malkmus, part The National, all fantastic” - DIY

“Lavish... a six minute feast…” - Clash

“Epic” - The Line of Best Fit

“a wonderful meld of talky vocals, angular chords and thrashing left-turns.” - The New Cue

"A slightly oddball yet highly contagious slice of delightful slacker pop, big on melody and blessed with an unmistakable innate charm." - God Is In The TV

“an intelligent, observational lyricism that’s impossible to not immediately be drawn towards.” - The Revue

“It’s a manic display, and utterly compelling from first to last.” - Beats Per Minute on “Wild Joy”

“Joyeria’s blend of bleakly humorous lyricism and lofi production, bolstered by Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey, is a quintessential take on fatherhood, responsibility and becoming an adult” - Still Listening

EP Artwork

Joyeria’s FIM (EP) is what happens when a Canadian spends his adult life patiently crafting his own path as a songwriter in London instead of following his heroes and peers in search of an assumed authenticity in Austin or Nashville. It’s what happens when a stubbornly solo artist finds a true collaborator in a producer like Speedy Wunderground’s Dan Carey. It’s what happens after a songwriter has worked hard for a long time in the dark, looking for lighting in a bottle — and finds it.
