South London act ‘Solitude Sometimes Is’ to release debut album ‘Float’ on Friday Sep. 1

Album features musicians including Elbow’s drummer Alex Reeves.

‘Float’ is a mixture of Britpop, new wave and anthemic indie.

South London musician ‘Solitude Sometimes Is’ will release his debut album ‘Float’ on Friday September 1.

‘Float’ melts poetic pretensions with punk-folk vibes to tackle that nagging question: is modern life rubbish?

The album features a range of styles — new wave, alt-synth pop, anthemic indie — and some fantastic musicians, including Alex Reeves, the drummer with Elbow who has also played for Bat for Lashes, Bobby Womack and many other amazing acts.

Songwriter Owen James said: “Working with Alex was insane. For a start, no one that cool should also be that good at music. It’s just not fair on the rest of us. Having him on the album is probably the coolest thing that will happen to me until Noel Gallagher puts a call in and asks me to play on his next tour.”

He added: “I wasn’t even planning on making an album, but one day a good mate of mine pointed out that over the years I’d sent him enough tunes to put one together. So it’s his fault really.”

‘Float’ is being released by No Distance Records on limited edition CD and cassette, with strong pre-sales meaning the physical copies are already close to selling out.

A launch gig is taking place on Saturday September 2 in Guard House, Woolwich.
