Songs on Repeat - October 2022
Here's a round up of the songs old and new we've been enjoying at Click Roll Boom HQ this month.
Delilah Bon - Dead men don’t R@p3 (2021) Delilah Bon - Bad Attitude (2021)
Since leading up to the Delilah Bon headlining gig at the beginning of this month I have been absolutely been obsessed learning the lyrics so I could scream them in person and even after the gig I come out with a whole new love and appreciation for both of these songs. I feel Delilah Bon is quite a strong feminist icon and there is a lot of love in her shows and music and the themes are so relatable.
Ministry - Everyday is Halloween (1987)
My personal Halloween playlist has been on repeat since hitting October and Ministry had been my go to for its creepiness and the pulsating rhythms and synths just get stuck in my head.
Misfits - Pumpkin Head (1999)
Also on my Halloween list this one, although not my favourite Misfits song is quite amusing and I enjoy listening to. It’s the song I associate the most when I see all the Halloween décor in supermarkets, it makes my weekly shop bearable.
Kings of Leon - Charmer (2007)
I was introduced to this song some years ago for the absurd screams and it became a meme amongst my old friend group. However, listening now I’m rather impressed by the vocal range and technique and it is so repetitive and easy to listen and it’s become one of my many favourites.
Metallica - Master of Puppets (1986)
Although fan of Metallica, Master of puppets has stepped into the limelight for me since the TV Show Stranger Things and is associated with one of my favourite characters, without any spoilers, it’s just an epic track.
The Mysterines - Old Friends Die Hard (2022)
Just a feel-good grungy almost bad-ass country track that I adore. It gives me a boost of confidence and the lyrics “Here comes Frankie, nice and sleazy. He's got something up his sleavy.” Is just simple yet satisfying to me.

Missing Andy - The Way We’re Made (2011)
I think I first found Missing Andy supporting another band back in the early 2010’s and became obsessed with them but over the years they fell off my radar. They came into my head recently and I’ve not been able to listen to ‘The Way We’re Made’ enough. I love how real the track is talking about fear and pride, it’s really honest and deep with a great cheeky chap Essex boy feel. Now Missing Andy are back in the forefront of my mind I can see them going anywhere any time soon!
Dead Pony - Bullet Farm (2022)
I love the infectious raucous riff, super cute, sparking vocals and pounding drums. It’s just the right amount of pretentious with a catchy chorus I can’t get enough of. I reviewed the EP a few weeks ago and ‘Bullet Farm’ clocked up 4 back to back listens.
Snow Coats - Dinosaur (2022)
‘Dinosaur’ is an absolute jangle fest. It’s the kind of song that makes you want to dance around your living room. While the subject is pretty bleak the song is the ultimate happy feel good sound.
Reverend and the Makers - Heavyweight Champion of the World (2007)
This is another track that often falls off all my playlist for years then I remember it and become addicted. I love the funky feel with the perfect amount of danceability. The lyrics are incredible offering a grim look at the expectations of what is the correct way to live life “get born, get school, get job, get car, pay tax and find a wife”
The Shirehorses (1997)
Doofergrass - Feel Like Shite
Peela Tater - Ta La
I can’t get enough of the “Worst Album In the World Ever…EVER!” at the moment. I love a good parody and The Shirehorses AKA Mark & Lard are absolute geniuses. I could have picked any tracks from the record but these two have me in stitches. The line in ‘Ta La’ “Lamb jalfrezi and fifteen pints of lager, Sends a message to your arse” really cracks up my immature sense of humour!
Cherym - Listening to Your Head (2021)
‘Listening to Your Head’ has been a staple on many of my playlists for about a year now. The lyrics are amazing and very relatable, I think we’re all guilty of being taken in by someone listening to call the crap they spout when in truth we should have spent the time listening to our own heads. The track is catchy and glittery, it was an instant hit the first time I heard it.
Worriers - WTF is Sleep (2017)
This is another track that is kind of personal to me. It talks about anxiety, fear of doing even the simplest things and the notion of knowing your sleep will always be interrupted with worrying and panic. It’s a track that reminds me how far I’ve come in my own life from being too scared to leave the house to having the confidence to do anything I put my mind to. It’s a great song for anyone who’s having a tough time, like a friend who understands.
More Kicks - Terminal Love (2022)
I’ve been obsessed with this since reviewing the album. It’s a great slice of honest Brit-rock. It has a retro 90’s vibe, jangly guitars, nice little riffs and super catchy lyrics.
Ed:
Peaness – Kaizen (2020)
Vocals soar powerfully above a seductive meaty bassline, while catchy riffs burst into life, with an instantly addictive groove and jaunty rhythm. It is insanely catchy, littered with gloriously sweet harmonies and hooks you could hang your coat on, dusted with a light coat of warm fuzz. It is yet another gem from Peaness, who have a propensity for such magic.
The Ruts – Babylon’s Burning (1979)
Burning with immediacy and catapulting The Ruts into the mainstream, ‘Babylon’s Burning’ is a taut, angular burst of aggression underpinned by an ascending and unforgettable guitar riff. It remains a punk classic that’s lost none of its power.
Paramore – This Is Why (2022)
Paramore have released an exciting new single in the lead-up to a long-awaited album, reintroducing the band to the world with a mixture of post-punk heaviness and a flair of their old pop-punk and emo roots, assisted with Hayley Williams’ intricate and confrontational lyricism, as well as forever impressive vocals and a myriad of talent amongst the trio and their production team.
Wolf Alice – Smile (2021)
The song bursts out of a soft distortion and into gritty, low guitars, and as the drums explode into the first verse, the song affirms its energetic status. Each verse is carried along by a low bassline that wonderfully compliments the pulse of Ellie Rowsell’s lead vocals. The chorus lifts up and out into a hypnotic twist of synths and extended soft melodies. “Blue Weekend” is my favourite album of the year.
Spandau Ballet – True (1983)
This was the song that turned Spandau Ballet from potential one album wonders to true pop legends. Gary Kemp wrote this as a homage to Motown and Marvin Gaye. It soon became something of a standard, and one of the best love songs of all time.
I've been doing a lot of driving this month so my list includes all my drivetime favourites!
The Cult - She Sell Sanctuary (1985)
The Beatles - Help (1965)
Derek and the Dominoes - Layla (1970)
Gary Moore - Over the hills and Far Away (2001)
Golden Earring - Radar Love (1973)
Ram Jam - Black Betty (1977)
The Beatles - Paperback Writer (1966)
Kneebody - Dr Beauchef, Penguin Dentis (2007)
This wacky-titled song is a perfect hit of Jazz doing jazz things in a very jazzy way. Formed in 2001, you can hear the innovation that separates Kneebody into an urban-inspired shining star of the jazz world. With striking bass that pairs perfectly with earthy trombone, this is a perfect song to blast out the dust in those ear canals for this month's tracks. Just wait till the drums really kick in at the end and turn up!
Paramore - This is Why (2022)
When Paramore releases a new song, I think it finds its way into every list written at the same time. With a little bit of indie pop influence and an energetic performance that shows no signs of slowing down from the iconic band, this is yet another banger from the powerhouse band. If you like Paramore, and you're open to new (very catchy) ideas, check it out.
FRVRFRIDAY - ALL EARS (2022)
Shuffle buttons rock. I found this fairly recent track by lesser-known Canadian artist FRVRFRIDAY and was immediately struck by the immaculate production from Mr. Franks and Roccstar, alongside the memorable and modern vocal lines. I expect to see this artist find his way into the charts sometime soon.
pizzagirl - carseat (2018)
From the moment the side chains kick in, combo'd with the reverberated vocals about lost in - you know you're in for a vibe with this track from Liverpool Singer-songwriter pizzagirl. carseat sounds like it belongs at the end of Drive - in a good way. Give it a listen.
Black Sabbath - War Pigs (1970)
And of course, it's time to begin Spooky season with about as heavy as my music taste goes - Black Sabbath. Whilst I'm not the biggest metalhead, there's no better time of year to get some classic early riffs. Just try not to think about the lyrics too much…
