Songs on Repeat: December 2024 - Wrapped Edition

Another year, another Spotify Wrapped! Here are the tune the Click Roll Boom team haven’t been able to get enough of it 2024!

Scott

Kaiser Chiefs - Reasons to Stay Alive (2024)

Jack White - That’s How I’m Feeling (2024)

Kaiser Chiefs - Na Na Na Na Naa (2005)

Biffy Clyro - Who’s Got a Match (2007)

Queen - We Will Rock You (1977)

Amy

The Wonder Years - Year of the Vulture (2024)

The only new original song in 2024 from my favorite band was always going to be my number one. Written for the @wwenxt Stand & Deliver event, it's been cool to see a heavier, more post-hardcore side to the band. A side not seen since "Get Stoked On It!"

Bracket - Warren's Song Pt.8 (2020)

Half Man Half Biscuit - Vatican Broadside (2016)

Both of these clock in at a mere 30 seconds long, so once is never enough! 'Warren's Song Pt.8' is stunningly melodic, while 'Vatican Broadside' is the Biscuit's usual hilarious dose of satire.

Joyce Manor - Do You Really Want to Not Get Better? (2016)

Dreamy, melodic, and captivating... This song shows a more introspective side to Joyce Manor, and I love it!

Descendents - Cool to Be You (2004)

One of the band's finest songs, a fantastic dose of melodic punk with biting lyrics dealing with someone who perceives themselves as an outsider looking in on a person they believe to have a perfect life.

Kempsey

Kings of Leon - Mustang (2024)

Hozier - Francesca (2023)

Kings of Leon - Wait For Me (2013)

Kings of Leon - Nowhere to Run (2024)

Hozier - Eat Your Young (2023)

Kieran

Lo Spirit - GOOD THINGS (2024)

The Ghost Inside - Split (2024)

The Ghost Inside - Wash It Away (2024)

The Plot In You - Left behind (2024)

Make Them Suffer - Ghost of me (2023)

Tyler:

Shelly - Steeeam (2020) I cannot stress enough how much I've listened to Shelly this year. Clairo’s short-lived band featuring her cousin Claud dominated my listening time this year. With only two songs under their belt, ‘Shelly’ paints a musical picture that evokes the best of Cocteau Twins with a singer-songwriter flair. I could ramble about this song for a while, but I've definitely done so before. Just go listen to it!!

Steely Dan - Only A Fool Would Say That (1972) If you asked me any other time of year, I wouldn't particularly call myself a big Steely Dan fan, but as soon as Wrapped comes around they've somehow wormed their way to the top of my listening hours. There's no other band like them, and their songs are intricately layered in a way that begs for repeat listening. This year it was this classic track, next year it'll probably be from Aja. The great cycle continues.

The Kinks - Waterloo Sunset (1967) I believe this is another one that already featured on one of my top 5s this year, and for good reason. This ballad never gets old to me. From the unforgettable riff to the simple yet melancholically beautiful lyrics of Ray Davies, this is the ballad barrier all others must meet in my eyes (ears?).

Harry Nilsson - Everybody's Talkin’ at Me (1968) Another mainstay of my musical listening habits; I'm pretty sure this one has been on every Wrapped since 2019. Midnight Cowboy is an incredible film, and this is the perfect title song in my opinion. Wistful but hopeful in a way only Nilsson’s unique talents could bring forward, if he’d called it “Everybody's Walkin’ Here” I'm sure it'd be more iconic than the Jaws theme today.

Lil Yachty - drive ME crazy! (2023) “Let’s start here.” is the best album of the decade so far. I'd go so far as to argue it's the best psychedelic album in decades. Lil Yachty is a rapper that confidently steps into any musical role, and his work here completely flipped the script of what I knew about him and made me pay attention. This whole album is a shining example of artistic collaboration and experimentation from a mainstream artist who could very easily rest on his laurels and is well worth your time.

Tyler

Hey there! I'm Tyler, 19 and outside of writing for CRB I'm an SEO & CMS Executive at a car leasing company. Lot of boring web development stuff basically!

If you've taken a peek at my 5 songs for the month at any point you can probably guess my taste in media is all over the place, but if there's anything that's my favourite it's probably Star Trek. My favourite genre overall is probably New Wave but I listen to pretty much anything that gets thrown my way.

On a weekend you'll probably find me watching F1 and hopefully covering some more gigs in the near future, I've done some journalism stuff outside of CRB but most of my writing is creative work or last minute page content for a new car model. I'm based in Wakefield primarily but Leeds is only a train away when they're not striking.
