Songs On Repeat: August 2023
Here's a round up of the songs old and new we've been enjoying at Click Roll Boom HQ this month.
Kempsey:
Paris Paloma - Labour (2023)
Found this track on a Tiktok and honestly, It’s a song that just releases generations of female rage. It’s so addictive to sing along to and the entwining verses on the final chorus just creates the most intense finale.
The Parallax Method - We’ve Learned Nothing (2023)
I think after tearing this song to pieces during my review it really stuck around in my playlists for a while it really is addictive.
Pink- Lizzo (2023)
I’m not ashamed to say I have watched Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, the soundtrack for the movie just hits, it’s fun and lighthearted. This one hints at childhood nostalgia and I have come to appreciate the colour pink a little more as well as show off my girly side.
Catfish And The Bottlemen - 7 (2016)
In my college days I loved this song, I’m not sure how my obsession had resurfaced but it’s here and living in my repeats. I love that it is a love song but there is a struggle behind it and it hits real and true with listeners.
Sam Bell - Lonely Dream (2023)
Another song from my reviews that really stuck out. I love the warm tones and the isolated feelings. It’s a beautiful piece.
Blessthefall - Open Water (2016)
The 10 year anniversary of Hollow Bodies and the return of Bless The Fall from their very long hiatus has me so excited. Open Water is a very tender and intense track that features Lights, my all time favourite singer, which makes this track perfect. If they come to the UK I am snatching tickets ASAP, until then, This track and the album will stay on repeat.

Amy:
Die Antwoord - I Fink U Freeky (2012)
I heard this while watching one of WatchMojo’s ‘Scariest Music Videos’ and it’s been stuck in my head ever since. I'm not even sure I like it that much; it's just so fucking catchy!
The Tuts - Tut Tut Tut (2016)
A kitschy, punky, sparkling vent of frustration about how women are often seen as lesser talents within the music industry. Even if they have more popularity and more talent, they still only make it to support band status, as their male counterparts are seen as more worthy.
Danny Dwyer & The Wonder Years - Mortal Kombat 2 (20230
Melodic, angsty, catchy, and proof that adding The Wonder Years to a track elevates it from pretty good to the Godlike tier.
Idlewild - A Modern Way of Letting Go (2002)
I've listened to this track dozens of times and have yet to absorb the lyrics. For some reason, I suddenly found myself paying close attention. I had a stop-you-in-your-tracks moment at this line "losing isn't learning to be lost. It's learning to know when you're lost", full-on goosebumps.
Big Country - Birmingham (1999)
Since falling in love with Big Country earlier this year, I've loved journeying through their back catalogue, which is full of incredible tracks and surprises you wouldn't expect from the band's sound. 'Birmingham' is one of those surprises, a wonderful soundscape of uptempo Americana-infused country with some epic guitar solos.
New Model Army - 51st State (1986)
A brilliant post-punk protest song about how the UK is becoming so Americanized it may as well just call itself the 51st state.
Best Ex - Tell Your Friends (2023)
A cutesy account of the end of a shitty relationship where you were little more than a mother to a fully grown child who already has a mother of his own. Sugary sweet vocals channel the feeling of freedom, a bird whose wings had been clipped finally learning to fly again.
Gen and the Degenerates - BIG HIT SINGLE (2023)
Beautifully pretentious, dangerously addictive, pulsating, and infectious 'BIG HIT SINGLE' blasts with attitude at how easy it is to go viral but how harsh the downfall can be. Viral on TikTok one day overplayed and sold out the next.
Teenage Bottlerocket - I Wanna Be A Dog (2019)
A gorgeous, emotional, upbeat anthem about simply wanting to be a dog. Rejecting the complications of society, throw your cares away, and love fully without judgment. Play, cuddle, lick your balls, and lead a trouble-free life.

Scott:
The Bear: Season 1 & 2 Soundtracks (2022-Present)
No single song although I find myself humming or 'diggadiggadiggadigga'-ing along to that first BANGER all the time. Great music from a great show
