brighton-based grit pop trio snake eyes are delighted to announce details of their forthcoming new ep health, which is set for release on 16th june 2023 on a limited run of cassette tapes via alcopop! Records.
with upcoming appearances at teddy rocks, truck festival and sound of suburbia, and fresh from a hugely successful debut uk headline tour which included sold out shows in manchester and brighton, the band have today revealed new single ‘crybaby’ released 18th april 2023.
continuing their exploration of a more immediate, indie-punk leaning sound that’s packed with melody, lo-fi charm, and wry humour, ‘crybaby’ is a stomping ode to accepting yourself and the mental health catharsis that music can offer to those who are struggling.
commenting on the new single, vocalist jim heffy says: “we doubled down on our love of britpop with this one to make our most bombastic & obnoxious ripper to date. all of us in the band struggle with our mental health from time to time. it’s become much less of a taboo subject which is a really healthy change but i do still think there’s some way to go. i’ve accepted myself as someone who struggles with keeping my head above the waves. sometimes it feels like being happy or content is always just out of reach.”
“having an outlet to express yourself can be crucial in getting out of a dark place and this band is that for me. i’m very fortunate. i wrote this one as a reminder to myself (and anyone that needs to hear it) to accept all facets of yourself and stay optimistic.”
bolstered by another all-killer-no-filler self-produced music video, drummer and director thomas coe-brooker says of the tear jerking visuals: “this was the first idea that popped into my head and i put if forward to the others half-jokingly and it kind of escalated from there! we've spoken for a while about doing a one-shot video and this seemed like a fun one for it with lots of very visual lyrics and the lighthearted vibe of the song.”
the three-piece signed to alcopop! records late last year, with ep lead single ‘40 winks’ and follow up ‘no one is truly cool’ already making waves with alternative tastemakers at visions magazine, noizze, alt corner, bring the noise uk, the punk site, punctuation magazine, distorted sound magazine and more.
radio spins for the trio kicked on at pace with playlist support from john kennedy at radio x, key bbc r1 play from nels hylton, bbc 6music love from amy lamé, and the undertones legend mickey bradley on bbc foyle/ulster all jumping on side.
the band have also seen a surge in dsp editorial support for the new tracks, landing spots on spotify’s all new punk, alternative noise and all new rock playlists, apple’s new in rock, amazon’s breakthrough alternative, best new bands, fresh alternative, and fresh rock, and deezer’s asap rock and the moshpit.
snake eyes will announce further live dates and festival appearances over the coming months.
