“Slung are a doozy of a brand new band” - Loud Women

“A groove-laden alt-grunge swagger that harkens thoughts of the fuzz and sleaze of the 90s” - Noizze UK

“It’s moody and ominous, the lead guitar tone is perfect” - Fly Tip TV

“Building with an ominous tension, ‘Neurotic’ ripples with a haunting energy, finally culminating in a fierce climax of raging catharsis.” - Get In Her Ears

Having last month released their debut single ‘Neurotic’, Brighton’s very own Slung have revealed a live version of the track filmed at Brighton indie label Small Pond’s studios. The clip showcases vocalist Katie Oldham’s astounding talent and soul-baring delivery with her fervent take elevated by the remarkably tight knit unit of bandmates Ali Johnson (guitar), Ravi Martin (drums) and Vlad Matveikov (bass). It’s but a small taster of what audiences can expect of the band as they hit the road across the UK and Europe for various dates over the rest of 2024 (see below for details).

Though Vlad and Katie are now based in Spain, Brighton is very much the band’s adoptive home. “When I was on my lonesome and before Slung existed, it was the city of Brighton and its scene that helped develop the ideas and songs to give Slung a foundation to be built on,” says Vlad. Ravi chimes in “None of us are actually from Brighton but all ended up there - it’s a haven for DIY music nuts and the scene has been, and still is, incredibly vibrant. So without it, we wouldn’t ever have crossed paths. So many bands are born out of DIY scenes like Brighton’s and we all think the community spaces and venues that are the hubs of these scenes need to be protected… we’re seeing it every month in Brighton now, with crucial venues being put at risk by developers building overpriced housing that no one who gave the city its shine can afford.”

Released via Fat Dracula, ‘Neurotic’ has already been turning heads with the track receiving airplay on Kerrang! Radio and Amazing Radio, as well as appearing in the Kerrang! Chart and being lauded by outlets across the world wide web. Oldham says it’s “a series of small moments from my life that have been representative of this more encompassing overall fear of disempowerment and relinquishing control. Being the passenger of a bad driver and there’s nothing you can do but sit tight and hope you’ll make it to your destination safely, the feeling of imminent sickness and physically not being able to prevent it from happening, a recurring dream of being born with superpowers, but then one day, when everyone’s counting on you, your power just disappears and you have no idea how to bring it back. To me, the song is representative of so much vulnerability: imposter syndrome, fear of letting people down, fear of failure, losing control, literal disempowerment...”
