Sludge metal duo Azell unleash their skull-crushing debut, Death Control, through Rottweiler Records on March 1st
Husband and wife creative duo, David and Courtney Napier, are perhaps best known for their work in comedy metal troupe Timōrātus, but their latest musical venture is anything but light hearted. Beneath the war torn banner of Azell, the pair have carved out some of the most towering, monolithic metal ever unleashed. A soul-crushing blend of impossibly heavy doom and caustic, spirit scouring sludge, Azell’s debut album Death Control is a truly monstrous leviathan of sound.
When Death Control begins in a howl of feedback that collapses into the thick magma of riffs that is the crushing title track, the listener is ripped from the normal passage of time and imprisoned in a dimension of elongated moments and seemingly endless seconds. The space between chords in paeans to eternity like ‘Scud’ seems to stretch beyond the possible, time itself liquefying and rational thought collapsing in upon itself. Songs like ‘Chemical Chains’ and new single 'A.M.' move like cosmic titans, striding across worlds, reducing humanity’s frenetic existence to that of a whirring cloud of insects that are born, live, love, war, age and die in the time it takes the entity that is Azell to inhale one, colossal breath. The very antithesis of light, Death Control is an invocation of the void, the sound of the cold, eternal darkness beyond the reach of the sun’s rays.
Now aligned with the forces of Rottweiler Records, Azell will unveil the sky-scraping machinery of Death Control on March 1st, complete with artwork created by David Napier that captures the album’s essence of staggering scale and terrifying power beyond comprehension. Prepare yourselves for the world eating immensity to come.
