SKiN GRAFT Records to Release 'Sounds To Make You Shudder!' On Vinyl
“SOUNDS TO MAKE YOU SHUDDER!” TO COME BACK TO LIFE ASA DELUXE, DOUBLE VINYL LP
Campaign to release SKiN GRAFT Records’ celebrated Halloween album to vinyl begins Wednesday, August 2nd via Kickstarter
“SKiN GRAFT is legendary, plain and simple… In the same way that there exists the trope of the “comic’s comic,” or, the “musician’s musician,” SKiN GRAFT is the record label that other record labels wish they could be” - CAN THIS EVEN BE CALLED MUSIC
"The album brings together longtime associates, current acts and some totally unexpected collaborations... The Jesus Lizard's David Yow morphs into a horror host frontman for the dark, chaotic math rock of Yowie, while Osees' John Dwyer performs sci-fi micro-surgery on Psychic Graveyard" - IDIOTEQ
Label founder Mark Fischer explains “SKiN GRAFT Records grew out of a punk comic-zine that my friend Rob and I published back in the 80’s. In those days, when a comic series reached an anniversary issue, like number 100 or 250, it was celebrated with a double-sized special. Late in the summer of last year, I hit upon the idea of putting together a Halloween album for our 150th release, as a kind of “tip-of-the hat” to the cool Halloween albums I grew up with”.
Seventeen artists came to together to record fifteen tracks. A CD and cassette were released late in October of 2022, but before the album even came out, calls for vinyl came in... “Everything came together in record time, but due to the long turnaround times at the record pressing plants, getting vinyl out last Halloween was impossible. Running an independent label like SKiN GRAFT necessitates abandoning a certain amount of practicality and common sense, but to put the album out on vinyl as envisioned comes at a considerable cost. We launched one campaign on Kickstarter previously and it helped us put together something truly special.”
In 2018, the Kickstarter community helped make the "Dhorimviskha" double album from Japan's progressive-rock powerhouse Koenjihyakkei a reality. The album went on to critical acclaim and was selected by Bandcamp Daily as one of the Best Albums of the Year.

Years before SKiN GRAFT started releasing music, it was a punk-comic zine. In 1986, Mark Fischer & Rob Syers started publishing their own comics inspired by the Do-It-Yourself attitude of punk rock. Armed with their instruments of choice, pen and paper, the two spent countless hours hovering over self-service copy machines, running off their books in limited editions. Mark would go on to found SKiN GRAFT Records, while Rob went on to create Gumballhead The Cat, the face of Three Floyd's Gumballhead Beer.
About SKiN GRAFT Records: From genre-defying to genre-defining, for more than three decades SKiN GRAFT Records has curated a collection of music that would seem at home nowhere else. SKiN GRAFT initially sprang to life in 1986 as a punk-infused comix zine, but with a move to Chicago in 1991, it reinvented itself as a quirky, aesthetically-driven record label, debuting with a collection of seven-inch singles packed inside comic book sleeves that defined its irreverent, multi-disciplinary approach. Full length albums quickly followed and the label churned out a stream of innovative releases from uncategorizable acts - ranging from post-rock harbingers Brise-Glace, to the grindcore noise-pop of Tokyo’s Melt-Banana, to Chicago’s rock re-defining U.S. Maple.
About “Sounds To Make You Shudder!”: DO YOU DARE? Sporting FIFTEEN NEW and EXCLUSIVE songs sure to scare your guests stiff, “Sounds To Make You Shudder!” is a HALLOWEEN LONG PLAYER that plays fast and loose any time of the year!
