SINGLE REVIEW: Wolforna - What’s That In Old Money?
This West Yorkshire band is crashing onto the music scene once again with their new single, carving a path for their upcoming EP ‘Tales of the Damned’, due to land this October.
Wolforna is heavily inspired by Deftones, Queens of The Stone Age and Nothing But Thieves, Presenting fierce riffs and Thunderous drums and melodic vocals, a recipe for success.
‘What’s That In Old Money?’ is a commentary on how the older generation and ways are holding back the youth. Musically, the track is catchy and holds swagger, however there is weight lyrically providing the likeness to our reality.
The opening has a snappy introduction via guitars before snapping to it with vocals and the rest of the band. I would say the bass and guitar are driving the track, grounding it whilst the guitars provide the heavy thunder. The Lyrics have a hold on you from the beginning.
There is an overall rebellious swing to the track with strong roots. The mid section makes for a beautiful key change and comes to a slow that is reminiscent of Pink Floyd; gentle but political before ramping up to the second section hammering down harder than before.
I feel it ends all too soon fading out into some theatrical phone voice message, making a great cliff hanger for the rest of the EP.
From my initial introduction to Wolforna in 2022 performing at The Key Club, I find there is a huge step up in musicianship, writing and overall polished production in this track. There is a lot of attitude and the lyrics are stronger. Even the artwork can be admired for its rebellion, sense of apprehension and hint of apocalyptic themes that I'm sure we’ll hear soon- I’m very excited to see what this forthcoming EP holds.
8.8 / 10 On my scale.
