SINGLE REVIEW: Weekly Round-Up 28/08/23 - 03/09/23
DSKYZD - Peace Be Still
'Peace Be Still' is a very powerful listen with a wonderfully catchy melody. The vocals feel really sincere and honest. I like how it blends a classic 80's rock sound with elements of 90's indie rock. It gives me serious Goo Goo Doll vibes! A great alt rock anthem!
2/14 - Graduation
'Graduation' is a great, raucous punk track with catchy hooks and abounding confidence. I like the injection of grunge distortion and an edge of progression. The lyrics are impactful and show vulnerability and confusion, delivered in a raw, impending fashion. The chaos of the musical backdrop mirrors the song's notion and skepticism perfectly.
JmNPR - Cold Whisper
'Cold Whispers' is an interesting listen that's a long way outside my usual listening box. I like how it combines elements of hip-hop with pop and distorted indie melodies. It's an engulfing listen with lots of layers of intricacy and immersive chords.
Achtung Sky - Do We Dare
I like the dark, new wave vibe of 'Do We Dare,' juxtaposed with a hip-hop-infused edge and pop melodies. It's an intriguing, groove-driven experience that fearlessly explores and pushes the boundaries of different genres.
Movment - I Believe In Noise
I like the dark vibe of 'I Believe In Noise'. The raw, somewhat imperfect vocals are really powerful and dominant. The spiky guitars provide a gripping backdrop of screaming, pulsating determination. It's noisy and erratic but at the same time structured enough not to sound too experimental and inaccessible. The 80s-laced synths add an interesting dimension.
American Thought Criminals - Save the Planet... Nuke the World
'Save the Planet...Nuke the World' is like an angrier, grittier 'Billie Jean'. I really like its dirty sound and ballsy bite. The deep, churning bassline works really well to add gravity to the vibe. I like its blunt, slightly disorderly grinding wave of anti-establishment attitude and confidence.
Back to Billy - My Rolling Stone
The vocals are undeniably stunning, taking center stage right from the start. With an infectious groove and toe-tapping rhythm, this rock 'n' roll gem draws you in effortlessly. The double bass adds a layer of depth and intrigue to the already transfixing sound. This track is not just music; it's a powerful declaration of authenticity and girl power, radiating confidence with every note.
Ben Gel - Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance to the Radio
'Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance, Dance to the Radio' is a powerful lyric that skillfully conveys how easily we can overlook the world's issues, remaining focused on our narrow perspective. This short yet remarkably infectious track showcases exceptional songwriting worth praising.
