SINGLE REVIEW: Weekly Round-Up 25/12/23 - 31/12/23

Caged Affair - Glory

A wild ride, 'Glory' throws punk vibes into the alt-rock mix, adding a dash of gritty roar and a sprinkle of soaring metal, with a hint of pop. It's raw, anthemic, and just explodes with energy. Guitars take charge, drums make a statement, and the bass adds a dirty, sludgy vibe. Vocals ride the rhythm with a touch of soulfulness and a lot of edge. 'Glory' is alive and kicking, bound to be a hit in a live gig.

‘Glory’ is taken from the EP “GRASS FED”.

Bobby Wallisch Jr - πάντα ῥεῖ

'Pánta Rheî' is a fun, uptempo listen with an infectious groove, making it an instant dance-along with its flamboyant, jubilant energy. Capturing the essence of modern punk with the wisdom of Greek philosophy, it's a charming fusion of high-octane sound fueled by driven guitars and pulsating drums, along with cultural ponderings and headbanging rhythms.

Livid. - Downtown

Combining hard rock with a southern twang, 'Downtown' is a perfect rootsy, bluesy, funky rocker. Underproduced to perfection, it is abounding in DIY authenticity. The riffs are twangy as the drums saunter along, and the raspy, ZZ Top comparable vocals mosey along atop. A little bit chaotic and disoriented and a little bit melodic, it's a track that makes its own rules. It doesn't aim to stick to the restraints of genre; instead, it aims to showcase everything Livid. are about while also paying tribute to the music they love.

The Mistaken Few - Picture Painted Memories

'Picture Painted Memories' creeps in on a slow wave of expectation as the chime of guitars is introduced, and the mellow vocals merge within the serene musical backdrop. The track balances flawless production and the nostalgic feel of 90s indie with a raw, bedroom rock edge. Soaring and melodic, it beautifully trudges through heartfelt emotions, enhancing the impact with an impending guitar solo that adds technical complexity to the track.

Shower Day - Walk Away

'Walk Away' embodies a gritty pop-punk vibe, radiating high energy with confidence and assurance in its sonic expression. It skillfully blends tempos, transitioning from fast to faster, crafting a mosh pit-exploding anthem. Channelling a retro early 2000s sound, the track is both melodic and raw, featuring impactful vocals that carry a hint of a DIY ethos within its well-produced sonic landscape.

De La Rocka - Invasion of the Robots

Finland's De La Rocker delves into the darker, more sinister side of artificial intelligence and the problems it might cause if mistreated in their in-your-face banger 'Invasion of Robots'. The track showcases the band's signature high-energy sound, characterised by frantic riffs and ferocious drums that blast with fire-driven impact. The vocals strike a balance between melodic and raw, conveying a sense of protest, while the gang vocals bring the track to life. An epic, gritty punk rock banger!

Fera Corvus - Universal Contradiction

Creatively fusing gritty grunge distortion with soaring melodies, 'Universal Contradiction' offers a diverse listen. The track imaginatively layers bellowing anthemic rock with whirling riffs, trudging vocals that feature a wonderfully bluesy edge, and the chaotic crash of noise rock, presenting a dynamic blast of engulfing noise.

not hermes - note

'note' features stunningly ethereal vocals and captivatingly dynamic synths. Leaning heavily towards EDM, as I've come to expect from not hermes, 'note' allows the vocals to take centre stage more. Still hazy and dreamlike, they are more distinctive with improved clarity than its predecessors. Infusing elements of dreampop into the mix, 'note' makes you feel elevated above the clouds with its light, immersive sound.

AudioGust - Bubble In Your Champagne

'Bubbles in Your Champagne' is a charming listen detailing the frustrations of not being noticed by that certain someone. It gives off Eels and Beck indie vibes, with a bit of Weezer thrown in the mix alongside an accessible pop melody. The vocals have a wonderfully geeky tone that bursts into a stunning, melodic, super catchy, singalong chorus. It's a really quirky, charming listen and one I think we can all relate to, as I believe we've all felt invisible and like a mere champagne bubble at times.
