SINGLE REVIEW: Tara Van - Fucked-up-ness
‘Fucked-up-ness’ by Toronto based singer-songwriter Tara Van is an inspirational lesson in metal health and learning to accept your flaws.
Effective but simplistic guitars, hand claps and twinkling keys back stunning, passionate layered vocals. It's up-tempo and radiates positivity and its shares the notion of becoming at peace with all your "fucked-up-ness". It's the realisation that you spend so long berating yourself for your flaws that there comes a point where you need to see the bigger picture and understand that it's the faults that form part of the person you are and they should be embraced.
Tara's voice is sensational, there's a real feeling of warmth and sincerity. Like a friend sitting down with you to sing. Her sound is polished but retains the perfect amount of rawness. Tara mixes elements of folk, pop, indie and even a slight hint of a country twang on this understated but multifaceted confidence inspiring track.
Started slower "Fucked-up-ness" begins in the dark, questioning yourself and feeling uneasy. The track builds as personal acceptance grows and by the end its a full of party and celebration of life.
'Fucked-up-ness' is the positive spin of a mental health song that's going to go a long way towards making you think and begin your own healing process.
