SINGLE REVIEW: Starpainter - Low-Hanging Fruit

Another hidden Canadian gem, Starpainter offer a different take on country with glorious new single 'Low-Hanging Fruit'.

The track is a nod of appreciation to all the small-time artists, writers, musicians who touch our lives with their art while also juggling real life jobs to fund their passion. 'Low-Hanging Fruit' gives them a moment in the spotlight to know that their efforts don't go unnoticed and while they might not be the ones "making lots of money" what they're doing is as worthwhile as those who are.

As a magazine that is run totally on love of music and spends copious amounts of time promoting small bands and trying to give them a platform to be heard, 'Low-Hanging Fruit' is a song close to my heart. As much as I like big bands in the last year or so I have come to realise the true talent lies below the big bank balances and arena tours with the grass roots musicians waiting for their big break.

Plodding and pensive 'Low-Hanging Fruit' mixes the twang of country and its journeying vibe with the captivating melodic-ness of indie and even infuses a little bit of blues in the mix. The vocals are smooth with a raw, genuine edge. The overall sound is pleasing and thoughtful. There's stunning keys and cute riffs. It's catchy and invigorating, delivered with authenticity and sincerity.

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours šŸ¤ŖšŸ˜œ) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
