SINGLE REVIEW: Shedding Velvet - Seven Is the Level

Maidstone rockers Shedding Velvet serve up a high-octane banger in the form of their new single 'Seven Is the Level'.

The track makes the listener question their unhealthy obsession with reaching a certain level of acceptance or quality. The inability to accept criticism as a part of life to always see it as an earth-crushing defeat. While seven might seem like the magic number ultimately, it's just a number lost in a crowd or a sea of indifference. What makes seven so special anyway? Who sets these levels of acceptance? Who decides where the bar is for quality? 'Seven Is the Level' is a track that provides so many questions. A real "food for thought" kind of lyric. Everyone's striving for something, journeying down a path trying to research the unattainable, but how many of us really take the time to question why and what we're hoping to achieve?

Raucous is its demeanour 'Seven Is the Level' is a raw rampant tapestry of punchy hooks and erratic, spiky guitars, buzzing with rockstar attitude. It's an excellent blend of frantic post-punk, DIY garage rock, and more structured alt-rock. It gave me Therapy? meets The Hives vibes. Raw with fiery urgency while also artistic and flamboyant. There's a zesty, addictive groove running throughout, with the vocals pairing melodic theatrics with raging protesting bellowings.

A vigorous, animated listen, Shedding Velvet have devised the perfect recipe of catchy, mosh pit-fueling commotion, girthy electrifying sounds, and resonating lyrics. 'Seven Is the Level' is bold in its presence and insightful in its stance.
