SINGLE REVIEW: Poster Club - Circuits
Poster Club return with a fresh burst of energy on their latest single, ‘Circuits’, a track that hurls them back into their punk-infused roots while keeping one foot firmly planted in their signature post-punk and new wave influences. Following the dance-driven shimmer of ‘Tradeston’ and ‘Goth Parade’, this new release strips things down to a rawer, more immediate sound—urgent, electric, and bristling with intensity.
Opening with a sense of uneasy anticipation, ‘Circuits’ quickly finds its momentum as jittery guitars and a pounding rhythm section drive forward with a restless energy. There’s an unmistakable vulnerability in both the lyrics and delivery, with vocalist Konrad channeling an emotional weight reminiscent of Scott Hutchison (Frightened Rabbit) and Brian Sella (The Front Bottoms). The track’s refrain—"rip me open, look at my circuits"—feels like an exposed nerve, a moment of stark honesty wrapped in the kind of melody that lingers long after the song has finished.
Sonically, ‘Circuits’ captures the tension between control and chaos, with its post-punk precision giving way to moments of near-frantic release. The guitars twist and writhe over pulsing basslines, leading to a high-octane climax that cements Poster Club’s knack for crafting music that feels as cathartic as it does anthemic. It’s a reminder that while their sound may be fluid, their ability to create something deeply affecting remains constant.
With their debut EPs Deterioration Parts 1 & 2 already marking their arrival on the Scottish scene and a growing reputation thanks to their signing with Electric Honey Records (home to the likes of Biffy Clyro and Belle & Sebastian), Poster Club are rapidly carving out a space for themselves. ‘Circuits’ only strengthens their case, proving they’re not just another post-punk revival band—they’re pushing the boundaries, tearing themselves open, and making something vital.
