SINGLE REVIEW: Morganway - Boy On The Train

Morganway's latest single, 'Boy On The Train', is inspired by singer Callum’s wife and their new baby son, who travelled up to Newcastle to meet the band on tour in 2022. Affectionately nicknamed 'Seth's Song', this track is a heartwarming blend of rock 'n' roll with a generous touch of folk charm.

The song begins with a nostalgic old-school vibe, brought to life by a captivating fiddle that hints at the simplicity and childlike innocence of twee pop. The vocals are wonderfully raw, with a stunning melodic quality that recalls Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream. As the track progresses, it blossoms into a full power rock anthem, showcasing the band’s dynamic range.

The interplay between the male and female vocals is a highlight, with the male vocals offering a raspy, captivating quality, while the female vocals are a powerhouse of crystal-clear precision. This beautiful harmony adds depth and texture to the song, making it a standout.

Morganway have crafted a multifaceted sound that draws from a multitude of genres, creating a rich and cohesive sonic palette. 'Boy On The Train' is not just a celebration of family and new beginnings, but also a testament to the band's versatility and talent. Fresh from touring Germany with Belle & Sebastian and currently playing festivals across the UK, Morganway continue to promote their new music with this delightful and evocative track.
