SINGLE REVIEW: Lipstereo - Push The Tide
Australian Indie rock band from Melbourne. This four-piece formed in 2019, this collection of music tragics bonded together over a mutual obsession of The Strokes, Weezer and Arctic Monkeys' back catalogues. Creating performances reminiscent of late nights at CBGB, and spilling drinks just a little too cheap on the floor.
With the successful EP release of “Modern Mythology” in 2022, sees the band prepare for bigger and better things with single “You Got The Things” and now we see the newest arrival of “Push The Tide”. I love how the artwork for these singles follow on from each other with unique collages and colour scheme, enticing the listener to listen and keep up the anticipation for the future.
Drum sticks count open before immediate start with full band intro, my immediate pull is towards the accent, that sparks a cheeky romantic interest and surely will have the ladies swooning. The rasp and harmonies are indeed assertive, however, “Push The Tide” is a little more tame compared to “You Got The Things” that has a fierce bite.
Clean tones between lead and rhythm guitars intertwine and the bass is steady and subtly warm, the pre-chorus and chorus builds to a simple chord progression and comes to a snappy climax. Drums drive the track, those toms in the verses add depth and are a refreshing change from the norm and add to the romantic theme.
Chorus lyrics “..But I’m saying you gotta push the tide away.. Oh yeah” Will surely will become glued to your head!
The Track has a simple and effective structure that really gets to the point straight away and is an easy listen for both consumers of mindless and wholeheart listening. It’s very uplifting and encouraging. For 2 minutes and 44 seconds it is rather short and sweet but does not get old with each repeat play, I can’t wait to dive deeper into the world of Lipstereo!
