SINGLE REVIEW: Lex Vervain - Favourite song
From the same imagination that brought us hyperpopster LXP comes Lex Vervain, a new-town troubadour. A London-based singer, songwriter, and guitarist, he’s making his mark with debut single 'Favourite Song', influenced by the likes of Elliott Smith, Bedouine, and Alex G.
Lex Vervain delivers sharp words and serious tunes from a small world caught up in the city, collaborating with producer Joseph Futak to craft an initial set of songs that flow along a soulful, shoegazing slipstream.
'Favourite Song' opens with warm, padded percussion, offering a glimpse into Lex Vervain’s world. The acoustics are serene and heartfelt, and the vocals come through as a gentle whisper. I love how the piano and subtle synths fade in, barely noticeable. The ending brings a touch of quiet noise, leaving the warmth as if you're waking up from a beautiful dream.
Simple and with recurring motifs, it's an easy, soothing listen that feels like a walk down a woodland trail in the summer – a warm, dreamlike song through and through.
