SINGLE REVIEW: Leo Brazil - Bats, bats, BATS!!!

A bit late to the party reviewing Leo Brazil’s Halloween-themed track, but 'Bats, bats, BATS!!!' is a delightful dive into the spooky associations people have with bats while also paying homage to these incredible creatures. Created entirely by Leo at home, the track sees him performing all the instruments and filming the video simultaneously.

The song kicks off with a futuristic sound that instantly grabs your attention. A creepy, sinister experimental vibe takes hold at first, courtesy of haunting experimentation, but as the track kicks in, it evolves into something more rounded. Heavily psychedelic, it retains a spooky undertone while embracing offbeat quirks throughout.

The track’s DIY nature is gloriously evident, with an underproduced quality that gives it a wonderfully personal feel. It's a bit off the wall, perhaps a little eccentric, and evokes a Captain Beefheart vibe at times. For a home-spun effort, it’s surprisingly intricate, utilising standard instrumentation alongside erratic noises that make it stand out.

Leo’s vocals are perfectly rough around the edges, which only makes the tune all the more inviting. The hypnotic synth swirls and the jam that fades out add to the feeling of a live, improvised performance—something I really appreciate.

At its core, 'Bats, bats, BATS!!!' is a fantastic track that, while about bats, holds a deeper meaning. It captures the idea that people often fear what they don’t truly understand. It’s a spooky, yet thoughtful offering, blending a sense of fun with a deeper message.
