SINGLE REVIEW: Kurt Baker - Anchors Up

Guitarist and songwriter Kurt Baker introduces his upcoming album "Rock 'N' Roll Club" due this autumn with the first single to be lifted from the record 'Anchors Up'.

'Anchors Up' is an insanely catchy, wonderfully upbeat dose of playful powerpop with a bit of a heavier bite.

It features punchy, melodic, uptempo guitars with just the right amount of sunshine laced jangle. A fun, feel good singalong tune it has hints of retro vibes comparable to Edwin Collins or Elvis Costello as well as a bit of a 60's infusion reminiscent of the Beach Boys surfy sounds.

Written whilst in Spain during lockdown the track details the discomfort of being locked away but the positivity of being able to find solace in the little things. Kurt explains the track was written sat by his window soaking up the sun rays, transporting him to a place of hope and better days to come. Channelling those optimistic thoughts meant he could create happy, sun filled melodies in a time of darkness.

'Anchors Up' is a bright, exuberant lighthearted get up and dance anthem. Pop meets rock magnificence, the perfect tune to bring in the warmer summer days.
