SINGLE REVIEW: Hana Piranha - Toxic

Hana Piranha's cover of 'Toxic' takes Britney Spears' pop hit and drags it through the shadows, turning it into a dark, gritty alt-rock anthem. While maintaining elements of the original’s catchy pop tones, Hana elevates the song with potent, smouldering guitars, sultry vocals, and a hard-edged rock twist that transforms its entire atmosphere. The chorus, in particular, explodes into a full-on alt-rock barrage, shifting the song’s dynamic and injecting it with new life.

Though I’m not typically a fan of covers, Hana’s rendition stands out as an impressive reworking of a track I never much cared for in its original form. By staying somewhat true to the recognisable elements of Britney’s version while infusing it with bold attitude and raw power, Hana manages to create something genuinely fresh. The original 'Toxic' always felt like one of the worst pop songs of its era to me, but this version breathes life into a song that once seemed lifeless and bland.

Hana Piranha strikes the perfect balance between homage and reinvention, giving 'Toxic' a sultry, fierce edge that demands attention. It’s a fearless take on a pop classic, reshaping it into something altogether more powerful, making even the most sceptical listener appreciate its potential.
