SINGLE REVIEW: FLORIDA - Lens Makes Ruin

One thing I admire about FLORIDA is their unique approach to press—they're asking for "terrible press" and even urge the use of words like dominatrix! It's refreshing to see a band so open to any kind of publicity, embracing the idea that all press is good press.

'Lens Makes Ruin' is an old school rock record heavily influenced by the band's upbringing in Florida and the music that surrounded them. The track starts with a churning, yearning intro that blossoms into a bright, hypnotic, swirling summer indie sound. It features a dreamy yet raw DIY aesthetic, with blazing and sweeping guitars that evoke early 90s vibes and a clear nostalgic feel. The song’s sound palette is a mix of grandeur and more mellow vibes, creating a captivating contrast.

However, my only criticism is that the vocals felt unfinished when the song transitioned into a long, melodic, instrumental outro. I found myself waiting for a climactic conclusion that never came. Despite this, 'Lens Makes Ruin' is a commendable effort from their debut album "Metal Detector". There's certainly no need for terrible press or dominatrix references here, though I would have liked the track to be slightly longer and reach a more definitive finale.

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
