SINGLE REVIEW: Character Actors - DJ Sallinger

Leeds 4 piece Character Actors deliver a genre infusing anthem on their latest single inspired by American author 'DJ Sallinger'.

Coming in with an intro that once I'd heard Puddle of Mudd's 'She Fucking Hates Me' I couldn't unhear, I'm not sure if that's good or bad! The track provides groove inspired guitars with interesting hooks. Heavy grunge-ish bass and an overall nonchalant sound. The vocals mix the theatrics and articulation of Jarvis Cocker with the earthy tones of Brian Fallon. The verse has a blase vibe with an air of likeable, pretentious confidence while the chorus offers raw punk energy and big time jangle.

Don't be fooled by the up-tempo nature of 'DJ Sallinger' lyrically it's a macabre listen offering a downbeat take on how much you've changed; not having so much, making less effort, having less to say and generally boring yourself to death. Presumably inspired by the feelings of being lost, depressed and lacking connection present in Sallingers novel “Catcher In the Rye”.

Character Actors are a talented bunch with a fresh sound and slightly unpolished edge teamed with bold confidence. They're exciting, endearing and sure know how to write a killer chorus!

I'm Amy a Norfolk girl, currently residing at the seaside.

Age: eternally 21 (I’m really Peter Pan!).

By day I'm a Leaks, Condensation, Damp and Mould Resident Liaison Officer and by night I'm CRB's admin bitch, reviewer extraordinaire, point and hope for the best photographer, paperclip monitor and expert at breaking anything technical then expecting Scott to fix it!

I'm into all kinds of music the more obscure the better (my music taste is definitely better than yours 🤪😜) with my fave band being The Wonder Years.

I'm an Ipswich Town fan and have an unhealthy obsession with hedgehogs!
