SINGLE REVIEW: Barking Poets - Getting Away With It

'Getting Away With It' by Baking Poets is a refreshing blast of good, honest rock 'n' roll with a good spattering of raw punk protest. Released back in September 2023, it's a rule-breaker for us, breaking our usual protocol of not covering songs over three months old. But trust me, this track deserves every bit of attention it's getting.

From the moment it kicks in, 'Getting Away With It' grabs you with its infectious energy and glittering guitars. The vocals are raw, brash, and slightly arty, adding to the track's authentic charm. The grounding drum beat sets the addictive groove, making it impossible not to move along.

This isn't a track trying to reinvent the wheel; it's simply here to rock out, and it does so brilliantly. With its upbeat sound, hooky guitars, and captivating melody, it's impossible not to get swept up in its bright, airy vibe.

But there's more beneath the surface. Lyrics like "run so hard to stay in one place" cut deep, capturing the frustration of chasing dreams while feeling stuck in the same spot. It's a powerful political protest wrapped in a high-energy punk 'n' roll banger, reminding us of the constraints society imposes.

'Getting Away With It' is just a taste of what Baking Poets have to offer. Lifted from their debut EP "Southsea Poets," it leaves you hungry for more. I, for one, can't wait to dive into the rest of the record and experience the full spectrum of their sound.
