SINGLE REVIEW: Ayna Errboe - Mad Girl

The dramatic shift in Ayna's sound showcased in 'Mad Girl' highlights his remarkable versatility as an artist. Departing momentarily from his acoustic folk foundations, the track blends sultry, funky rock with hints of soul and blues, alongside elements reminiscent of 60s dream pop. The guitar solo is truly magnificent, adding depth and dimension to the composition, while Ayna's vocals demonstrate impressive power and range, shining brightly throughout.

But it's not just the music that captivates; the narrative behind 'Mad Girl' adds a layer of depth and intimacy. Written in Toulouse, France several years ago, amidst personal turmoil and upheaval, having been thrown out by his unpredictable girlfriend twice in a month and finding himself drying washing on the grass, the song captures a moment of poignant reminiscence. It's a snapshot of a pivotal moment in Ayna's life, a realization that certain chapters must come to a definitive close, with no chance for reconciliation.

While 'Mad Girl' represents a departure from Ayna's usual style, it remains unmistakably him, particularly within the chorus that give a nod to his folk foots. His lyrics are honest and open, his tone familiar, yet there's a newfound intensity that infuses every note. While some may prefer his more folk-oriented tunes, there's something refreshing about witnessing this different side to his sound—a more attitude-heavy, almost rebellious streak that adds an intriguing dimension to his artistic repertoire.
