SINGLE REVIEW: Andy E McGuire - How I Feel

Andy E McGuire tells personal stories through his music, using it as a means to cope with the thoughts that weigh him down and with the hope that others can also find comfort in his words.

While he often chooses to share very apparent religious themes in his music, which don't sit comfortably with me, 'How I Feel,' despite its clear religious connotations, offers a more accessible lyric. It details the feeling of being taken for granted by his own children. Andy gives them everything he can but feels overlooked and underappreciated for all he does to provide them with the best life possible. The song opens up about the heartbreak of not feeling noticed as a father and all the sacrifices he makes for his children, putting them first and going without so they can have all they need. The song shares a narrative where the feeling of being taken for granted is likened to a god, guiding his "children" and preventing them from feeling lost but being undervalued for all the guidance he provides.

'How I Feel' is a stunning, heartfelt country ballad with breathtaking, soulful vocals and winding, pensive guitars. It offers a transcendent, soaring sound with flawless production.

This song is a beautiful, heartfelt emotional journey, one that many parents struggling with a lack of gratitude from their children may be able to relate to. While the religious themes may still make me feel uneasy, they don't detract from Andy's captivating voice and exceptional songwriting skills.
