SINGLE REVIEW: Allison Kane - Next Life

'Next Life' is an attitude-heavy pop-rock tune, a dazzling narrative of reminiscence about a lover's departure. In this case, Allison's boyfriend left to join the army, marking the acknowledgement that things will never be the same again, a closure of a chapter. It contemplates the idea of unspoken words, the regret of not being honest with feelings, and being consumed by the knowledge that things might have been different if the truth had been spoken. All that remains is the hope that paths will cross again in the next life, where hopefully things can be different.

The song delivers poignant lyrics within a buzzy, bubblegum vibe, skillfully blending clean yet radiant high-impact guitar riffs with powerful, driving drums, subtly backed by synths that infuse an exhilarating 80s vibe into the track.

Allison's vocals are crisp, exuding a confident aura and striking a perfect balance between authenticity and pretentiousness. They convey heartbreak alongside an air of dismissiveness, reflecting how sometimes, when our hearts are breaking, it's easier to outwardly act as though we don't care.

While 'Next Life' might not typically align with my musical preferences as it's a little too mainstream, it proves to be an enthralling, catchy, uptempo groove that juxtaposes accessible pop-based sounds with resonant lyrics.
