The collection captures the liminal phase between adolescence and adulthood, deep-rooted in New York's vibrant streets, its lively bars, clubs, and tenements. It explores personal growth through recklessness and self-discovery and celebrates the learnings from life's detours.
Andrea Janov, a dedicated punk rock kid, believes in the beauty of the ordinary, the power of the vernacular, and the history of the abandoned. She aims to reveal the power in what we see, say, do, ignore, and forget every day.
Janov comments: "I am a mess of contradictions, a fan of parallel structure, and a nostalgic pack rat. I write poetry about punk rock kids and take photos of forgotten places. My work strives to prove that poetry can be dirty, gritty, and accessible."
Raised by rock-and-roll parents, Janov embraced the importance of attending concerts and ignoring “no trespassing” signs early on. She navigated through her small-town punk rock scene during adolescence and eventually escaped to New York City to cause a ruckus in Alphabet City. She met her husband in a Chelsea bar, settled in Pittsburgh, works in tech, and still prefers Jameson neat.
