Out today, Sephine Llo's new single, “Rest With Me,” is a celestial lament for her late husband Robert, blending hope and denial in a haunting lullaby. The song is the second single from her forthcoming album, Diamond Fall, set for release on October 25th, which would have marked their 10th wedding anniversary. Alongside the single release, Sephine has announced a series of live shows, including a special album launch on October 25th at Nutfield Church of St Peter & St Paul, the very place where she and Robert were married. Proceeds from this performance will be donated to Kidscan Children’s Cancer Research.
Sephine explains, “‘Rest With Me’ is a play on the saying ‘Rest In Peace.’ The song is really about denial masquerading as hope… Even when the ambulance arrived to take us to the hospice, we said to each other if we didn’t like it there we’d come home. Even when his heart stopped beating, my instinct was to try CPR, and I couldn’t understand why the nurses were not rushing to take action.”
Featuring samples from a song Robert wrote as a teenager and underscored by the dark, swooping bass sounds of a manipulated daxophone, “Rest With Me” weaves an unsettling undertone beneath its loving, hypnotic serenade.
To accompany the release, Sephine Llo presents a live session recording filmed at Dunnottar school in Surrey, featuring an orchestra and choir made up of musician friends Llo had met throughout the years. The video starts in black and white and gradually transitions to colour, symbolising the emotional journey from denial and sadness to hope and love.
Following the death of her husband Robert Lloyd-Wilson (of Autumn Chorus) in 2016 while she was pregnant with their first child, Sephine Llo found it difficult to express her grief musically. She recalls, “The first time I sat down at a piano after he was gone, I just stared at the keys in silence for hours and then broke down. I couldn’t touch an instrument for over a year.” Discovering Robert’s old demos rekindled her creative drive, leading to the deeply personal Diamond Fall. Written, recorded, produced, and mixed by Llo, the album is both a tribute to her late husband and a testament to her healing journey. The artwork, depicting two linked black holes and tree symbolises her loss and the hope brought by their child.
Sephine Llo, known for her rich soundscapes and ethereal vocals, returns with Diamond Fall after a hiatus due to bereavement and single motherhood. The album offers an unapologetically honest exploration of grief and recovery, reflecting Llo’s unique blend of haunting orchestration and emotional depth. Diamond Fall not only marks her return but also stands as a powerful testament to resilience and artistic expression through profound personal trials.
