San Quentin’s new single ‘You’re Lost’ is out now

'You’re Lost’ is described by the band as the anthem for the lost, found or somewhere in between. Examining our current world under a microscope reveals all the toxic content made readily available to anyone through social media & the internet.

Songwriter, Liam Cass, wanted to explore the damaging effect such content can have on young minds, as heard in the opening lyric; “it ain’t no shock to me this generation was born dead”.

A thundering drum beat & low piano chords compliment and drive home the darkness of this subject. The transition into a catchy chorus feels like a deflection of being fed such toxic content. San Quentin still wanted to use an optimistic chorus to show light at the end of the tunnel & how to fight back against the damaging view of the world portrayed by the media.

Hailing from the seaside town Southend-on-Sea, San Quentin are a real working class band looking to take over with there fast paced anthems and engaging live performances. Tipped by This Feeling as “Ones to Watch 2023”, San Quentin came to be when songwriter Liam Cass & singer Owen Eves got together with drummer Luke Johns & bassist Nick Keep in 2019. Dan Ridgwell later joined as the lead guitarist in 2020 to complete the line-up.

The band name was inspired by the iconic album "Johnny Cash - San Quentin Prison". Johnny Cash being a real inspiration to Liam because of the working class, story telling songs and rebel attitude." 2022 was a massive year for the band that kicked off with them being tipped by BBC introducing as “Ones to Watch in 2022” this was followed shortly by a sold out 400 capacity hometown show which really cemented the band’s status in Southend.

Ready for a new challenge, San Quentin then went on to play their debut London headline show at Water Rats, which was also a sell out weeks in advance. Festival season saw the band make their major festival debut on the at Isle of Wight Festival, followed by Y Not Festival main stage alongside some of the music greats. 2022 ended with the boys heading off on their first UK tour, playing 6 shows & giving bags of energy for the crowds to remember.

The year ended on a high with a second sold out hometown show & the band’s first national radio support coming from John Kennedy on Radio X. The band are off to a strong start in 2023 with a return to Water Rats in January for the This Feeling Big in 2023 London show. This is followed by the release of new single You’re Lost & an invitation to perform at an Independent Venues Week Show in Doncaster. The diary is already filling out with festival bookings for the summer, it confirms that San Quentin really are Ones to Watch in 2023.

"San Quentin are at the forefront of the revival of British guitar music! Due to cries of 'one more song' the band swaggered back on stage do just that and finish off their set by playing Step Off, proving that they are well and truly rising rock n roll stars and will soon be a band on everyone’s lips.”
