Salford’s The Kubrick Stare release single ‘Where Did The Time Go?’

After years of crafting an ethereal sonic identity, The Kubrick Stare releases its first original song, "Where Did the Time Go?"

Established in 2021 by Salford-born guitarist Sam Mills-Smith, what began purely as a passion project quickly developed into a personal musical expression. Infusing a unique, eclectic range of influences with his lifelong love of shoegaze, Mills-Smith redefines the genre for a 21st-century audience. Taking cues from guitar heroes Johnny Marr, James Dean Bradfield, and Andy Bell, Mills-Smith's guitars are drenched with rich reverb and a plethora of modulation, creating a layered, atmospheric wall of sound.

Following the release of the debut single "Vapour Trail"—a cover of shoegaze giants Ride—"Where Did the Time Go?" sets the scene for the upcoming album *Pseudoreality*. The track introduces audiences to the otherworldly atmosphere of the project's modern rebranding of shoegaze. Evoking feelings of loneliness and isolation, the music is perfectly suited for solo listening, taking the listener on a solemn, dreamy journey through their own mind.

Accompanying this track are two B-sides: "Play Dead," an existential ballad showcasing the project's solemn side, and "Dreaming," an elegant yet hectic instrumental journey to close the single.

Pairing classic shoegaze tones with influences from post-punk, new wave, and synthpop, Mills-Smith's new take on shoegaze is fresh and exciting, not only enticing dedicated fans of the genre but also shining a light on one of the UK music scene's hidden gems.
