After arriving with a bang in 2023, Stockholm-born NOEL starts 2024 by collaborating with Norwegian singer Tessa Odden on the impassioned ‘Everything’s Fine’ (out 26th January), and announcing the arrival of his debut EP Headed North, due for release on 8th March.
Regret is a powerful emotion, and one that can lead to ruminations on what could have been. This forms the basis of NOEL’s new track, as memories are played out with alternative endings throughout this piano-led ballad. Previous single releases from the artist have seen his work compared with the likes of Lewis Capaldi and James Arthur for his emotive take on music; he continues in this thread as the song dissects complicated feelings with his rich vocals. Providing a note-perfect balance to this is Tessa Odden, an Oslo-based singer who uses her distinctive voice to add some striking harmonic layers as the track builds.
NOEL: ‘When writing this song, I dove into the “what ifs” that I keep reminiscing about and the relationships that could have been that I keep on romanticizing. The song is a mix of memories and feelings, but also my imagination of the perfect world where “what ifs” became reality. I sometimes think about the people who I thought would play a big part in my life but who I have no connection to at all today, and "Everything's Fine" is a reflection of those thoughts.
‘Growing up I’ve always loved listening to duets. When scrolling on Spotify I stumbled upon Tessa and was immediately intrigued by her voice. She is amazing and I was so thrilled when wanted do this duet with me. We spent a day together in Stockholm and recorded the song which was a great experience altogether, and I'm so happy with how this song turned out.’
Tessa Odden is an established musician in her own right, racking up over 80 million streams on Spotify and frequently collaborating with DJs and producers around the world She says on her collaboration with NOEL: ‘I'm really looking forward to the release of this song. NOEL has an amazing voice and is a skilled songwriter. We have quite a similar style, so it was really fun to do a duet together. I hope people like it as much as I do!’
‘Everything’s Fine’ marks another step towards the release of his debut EP Headed North, set to be released on 8th March. Featuring previous singles ’30 Loose Ends’ and ‘When You’re Not Mine’, the songs feel fully-formed and expansive, while captivating the listener with his arresting songwriting. Speaking about it, NOEL says: “This EP will always be special to me as it is my first and in many ways my introduction into music and songwriting. I started writing songs for the first time in sessions, a little over two years ago, without any real concept or deeper thought behind it. Eventually I found that the songs overtime started to find their place and, in many ways, turned into a coming of age story that really described where I was in my life at the time.”
The young and exceptionally talented artist who captured the hearts of millions on TikTok (over 10 million views and counting) with his captivating bedroom covers. NOEL's early years were consumed by his love for football. It wasn't until a knee injury abruptly ended his football dreams at the age of 17 that music truly took centre stage in his life.
Slowly but surely, NOEL started exploring his musical talents by singing in the shower and learning a few piano chords. Soon he would spend hours each day playing instruments and singing, a routine he still follows with unwavering dedication. NOEL's journey as a songwriter began unexpectedly when his TikTok covers attracted the interest of industry professionals. At the age of 21, he has already collaborated with seasoned songwriters and producers, channelling his innate talent and passion into his own original compositions.
