Rising D.C. Alt-Rock Group Day Aches Release Crushing Debut, One Last Dream Before Dying Out Today
"Rather than just recycling Hum or Smashing Pumpkins riffs, the band pulls from the punk and hard rock that the original grunge bands forged the style out of. [...] As a whole, One Last Dream is a masterfully executed take on grungy shoegaze that plays specifically to Day Aches’ unique strengths." - The Alternative
"...mixing early 90s grunge-era melodies with crunchier guitars and driving tempos that end up evoking modern bands like Soul Blind and Drug Church at the same time that they bring up mental images of Screaming Trees or Stone Temple Pilots circa 'Purple'." - RVA Magazine

About Day Aches
In the midst of a vibrant resurgence in guitar music, Day Aches emerges as a compelling force, rekindling the raw authenticity that fueled rock's potent reign. Roaring to life from the vibrant Virginia/DC hardcore scene, the band crafts a unique mosaic of emotion through introspective and dynamic soundscapes.
Their debut LP, "One Last Dream Before Dying" emerges as a poignant and immersive journey through the landscapes of decay, growth, and transformation. Each track on this album delves into the intricate emotions that accompany the unraveling of relationships and the passage of time. From the haunting opening of 'Hide', which paints a psychedelic picture of loss and acceptance, to the emotionally charged crescendo of 'Wish', where fuzzed-out reverb-laden guitars and roaring vocals intertwine to convey the never-ending longing, the album's sonic tapestry becomes a mirror to the thematic core. The ethereal soundscapes of tracks like 'Lavender' and 'Merger Theory' beautifully capture the dreamy nostalgia that accompanies the idea of letting go, while 'Velvet Response' boldly delves into the depths of depression and anxiety, seamlessly blending grunge and shoegaze influences.
Vocalist Drew Lambert On The Album
"One Last Dream Before Dying is a soundscape of moving on in life. From growing up and learning what you need is not what you may want. It's about trying to get past broken relationships, mental anguish, and self-doubt. Many of these songs deal with love in its last stages, in its final decay, and the roaring reverb-slathered guitars try to capture that feeling with 'Wish' and 'New June'. But there are small glimpses of happiness and newfound love/transformation with tracks like 'Wait' and 'Merger Theory'."
