Off the back of a triumphant run of debut headline shows over the past week, Irish lockdown sensation Luz (pronounced ‘Luce’) delivers another slice of stunning new music with ‘i shouldn’t be here’ - a piano-pop masterclass, detailing her inspirational mental health journey and yet again showcasing both her hugely relatable songwriting and delicate, soul-piercing voice - listen HERE.
‘i shouldn’t be here’ follows the 2022 Ivor Novello Rising Star nominee’s recent return with the rousing ‘not going anywhere’& simply stunning ‘sustain’, as well as her previously captivating singles ‘the author’ & ‘counting houses’. Her entire catalogue has been streamed collectively more than 120 million times to date - a highly impressive feat.
Luz comments; “This track was written during a time where I was experiencing really bad depression. I thought that the people close to me would be better off if I wasn’t in their lives anymore because of everything I put them through. For two years, I suffered with these thoughts constantly. As the song progresses, the lyrics and mood starts to shift as I begin to work on my mental health. I started therapy and accepted help from the people who love and care about me. This song is really special to me and I hope that anyone who listens to it and relates to it can also feel hope that it will be okay in the end.”
Luz’s trio of sold out debut headline shows this month have been nothing short of a resounding success. Starting in Cork, before making her way to Dublin, she stormed into London this week, taking the roof off of London’s Omeara, leaving an insatiable fanbase, who sang every word, counting down the days till her highly-anticipated return. As a result, she today announces brand new, even bigger, headline dates for March next year, including London’s Lafayette on March 21st, 2024. Artist presale starts Wed 18th Oct @ 10am & tickets go on general sale Fri 20th Oct @ 10am.
Luz first posted music secretly from her bedroom, with her identity always remaining anonymous. At the age of 16, she started to slowly lift the veil of secrecy and it was only then that she told her parents. Her mesmerising voice and emotive storytelling is sophisticated beyond her years, tackling issues such as mental health and sexuality. She has since caught the attention of Ed Sheeran, Dua Lipa, Sigrid, Julia Michaels, Lewis Capaldi, Dermot Kennedy, Niall Horan and many more.
Also, during lockdown, Luz put a piano version of Dua Lipa’s ‘Don’t Start Now’ on TikTok. Her cover has now amassed over 8 million views and was officially approved by Dua Lipa herself. She also featured alongside Noah Kahan for a mesmerising version of his single ‘Passenger’.
Having previously supported Ed Sheeran, Lewis Capaldi and JP Saxe at one off dates, Luz will take on her debut headline shows in October, in Cork, Dublin & London. Tickets available HERE.
At just 22 years of age, tackling real life issues in real time, Luz enters the world as one of the most exciting new voices from Ireland. With lots more new music, and now a new run of bigger headline dates in March next year, watch this space.
