Punk band GRLwood channel their Neurodivergence into a powerful album trilogy

Louisville rock band GRLwood has released their album BLOOD, the first in a trilogy of albums to be released this year. In addition to BLOOD, GRLwood will release the albums SWEAT and TEARS later this year. All the songs on the album were written and recorded by GRLwood founder Rej Forester, singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, at her home studio— in her bathroom closet.

This body of work comes from the struggles and all the emotions of dealing with and working through tough times. They reflect on the overwhelming anxiety of being consistently broke and not being able to get ahead, being lied to, being abused, and growing and healing through the pain inflicted by someone who refuses to heal themselves, all while still trying to retain a belief in love and that in the end, people are inherently good.

The fast and ferocious songs on BLOOD reflect the rage spurred when pushed past your limit of tolerance for abuse,  but also follow Forester's healing journey through. The blistering opener, “What,” a song about being fearless in the face of threats, sets the tone for the brutally honest and retrospective 11 songs that make up the cathartic album Songs like “ I Bet Your Perfect” and “Kid Bruises” deal with insecurity, identity, and hopelessness. “Pay the Rent” reflects the years of Forester's life living on beans and ramen, sleeping on the streets, unable to get ahead, and the crushing weight of poverty.   While the majority of the songs on the album pack the familiar punch and ferocity expected of a GRLwood album, Forester peppers in more ethereal soundscapes on songs like " Overwhelmed” and “Burn it Twice.”

GRLwood has been perfecting its unique brand of anger Noise Rock since its start in 2016. Founded by Forester as a solo project in their hometown of Louisville, they currently perform as a duo consisting of Forester and a drummer and have been touring non-stop since they started. The band released their critically acclaimed debut album Daddy in 2018, which yielded the break-out songs  'I'm Yer Dad,” which has over 93M streams on Spotify, and “Bisexual,” which has over 30M. Daddy was followed by the release of I Sold My Soul to the Devil in 2019 that Kerrang! Called “ amazingly abrasive,” yielded the hit  “I Hate My Mom,” which has over 38M streams on Spotify. Billboard, NPR, New Noise Magazine,  Brooklyn Vegan, NME, Hooligan Magazine, The Leo Weekly, and more have praised the band's music.

GRLwood’s explosive live show and the fearless gusto they have dedicated to dismantling toxic heteronormative ideologies through their work have led to the cultivation of a dedicated community of outsiders. Their music has been streamed over 500M times on Spotify alone, and they have over 300K followers across various social platforms.

GRLwood will perform the new songs and fan favorites on tour in North America and Europe this fall, including a stop at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Paris.
