SON Estrella Galicia brings a community and sustainability focused night of Live Music, Beer Culture and Positive impact to iconic Hackney venue and vintage clothing store Paper Dress on September 14th - with headline performances from Prima Queen and Shanghai Baby, the new project from Ade Martín, previously of Madrid band HINDS.
Since 2009, SON Estrella Galicia has created events that offer a twist on the traditional concert experience in Spain, Brazil, Portugal and the US, and they have quickly become part of the London scene with 3 events in the past 12 months.
From its inception the family-owned independent beer brand has fostered community roots in Galicia - working with local farmers and suppliers, and giving visibility to the region and its people. This is replicated at their events across the world - working with local vendors, artists, and sustainability projects.
Paper Dress is the perfect venue to actualise these ideals - as well as a proven track record in unearthing future musical talent, the venue doubles-up as a vintage store with a dedication to re-selling clothes against the tides of fast fashion. This approach towards giving a new life for clothing fits in with SON Estrella Galicia’s alignment with the idea of a circular economy.
There will be a limited and exclusive second-hand clothing pop-up shop, selling jackets customised with unique patches designed by local illustrator Tim Rockins, aka "Rockins HQ" to highlight the value of long-term vs. fast fashion.
In an age where local venues have never been more important but face mounting barriers towards long-term sustainability, and their capacity to contribute towards environmental issues - the events SON Estrella Galicia put on demonstrate the power in partnerships between like-minded teams.
It’s an approach which speaks to a generation of creatives and punters who are cognizant of the waste that can be associated with smaller events, music, and merchandising. The event has become a forum from which new ideas and discussions regarding sustainable processes in the wider scene sprout.
As part of the through-line from their origins to international events, each party in London has one artist from the UK and one from Spain.
Prima Queen (UK) headline the upcoming September 14th night - combining vulnerable and nostalgic storytelling with light-hearted lyrical imagery, their ethereal yet gritty style draws influences from Julia Jacklin, Nilüfer Yanya and Lucy Dacus.
Shanghai Baby (ES) is the new project from Ade Martín - former long-time member of HINDS. Already acclaimed by the likes of Stereogum, Shanghai Baby delivers charming retro indie rock vignettes pondering youthful dissatisfaction.
In line with Estrella Galicia´s efforts towards sustainability, the event will have interactive elements embodying the Reduce, Re-use and Recycle mantra.
New Life Furniture will be throughout the venue, and there will be live recycling demonstrations, quizzes and more.
Local Hackney restaurant Yellow Warbler Coffee will serve sustainable 0-KM food in the yard - creating delicious gastronomical pairings for Estrella Galicia Lager and 1906 Reserva Especial.
Estrella Galicia’s beer experts will be providing an exclusive What Does Your Beer Sound Like? tasting workshop at local record shop The BBE Store, showcasing the brand’s artisanal and multi-sensory approach to their craft. This is the first time an extra venue is used on the night, highlighting an expansion into the area.
High profile attendees at past events have included members of Los Bitchos, Teleman and Dream Wife.
