‘B.I.B.’ is the third single from Portuguese-British singer-songwriter, Maya Blandy.

Maya has been collaborating with Jake Wherry – founding member and producer of UK hip-hop pioneers, The Herbaliser, since 2021. A family connection brought them together in the studio – Jake’s 30 years of music writing and production, combined with Maya’s narrative songwriting and melodies inspired by her love of 70s disco and soul (think The Emotions, Dusty Springfield, Donny Hathaway, as well more modern RnB such as Erykah Badhu and Cleo Sol), proving to be a stellar fusion.

Jake initially made the beat with a rapper in mind - inspired by early 90’s Golden Era Hip-Hop such as productions by Pete Rock and DJ Premier, ‘B In Black’ has a tough beat underpinning 30’s style jazz music, inspired by Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington and Bessie Smith.

After listening to the track, Maya loved it and decided to write her own version adding her own melodies and lyrics. The track then developed into a sensual jazzy anthem that depicts the dysfunctional dynamics of a woman madly in love, willing to do anything to have that love reciprocated.

An amazing horn arrangement by trombonist Trevor Mires (central to the London music scene for decades, Trevor has worked with Jamiroquai, Incognito, George Benson, James Morrison, Pat Metheny, Radiohead, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, & Sir Tom Jones) with award-winning jazz trumpeter, Ryan Quigley (Royal Scottish National Orchestra, working alongside musicians such as saxophonist Joe Lovano & guitarist John Scofield) blowing the high notes captures the spirit of Big Band in a smoke filled club and the funky guitar parts by Adam Philips (Britney Spears, Tina Turner & Richard Ashcroft to name but a few) add some extra spice to the song.

B.I.B. is the third single from Maya’s debut album ‘Stardust’, which will be released in 2024.
