Portuguese shoegaze/post-metal band ICOSANDRIA and alt-rock trio TREEWAX are pleased to announce the release of split EP, Void Intention, set for release 18th April 2025.
To celebrate the news, lead single ‘Choronophobia’ by Porto-based ICOSANDRIA is out now on all good digital service providers.
Commenting on the single, the band said: “‘Chronophobia’ is a sonic journey addressing the pressure of fleeting time, combining atmospheric, muscular instrumentation with ethereal melodies.”
Showcasing a unique blend of alternative rock, grunge, shoegaze, and post-rock influences that will resonate deeply with fans of those genres and beyond, Treewax and Icosandria may hail from opposite ends of the alternative spectrum, but together they create a shared sonic journey.
Drawing from the golden age of ‘80s and ‘90s alt-rock and grunge, Treewax channel the raw energy of legends like Dinosaur Jr., Nirvana, and Weezer. Meanwhile, Icosandria’s atmospheric, post-rock-infused sound pays homage to Alcest, Slowdive, and Explosions In The Sky. The result? A dynamic and emotionally charged collection of tracks that explore immersive atmospheres and raw intensity.
ICOSANDRIA’s journey started in December 2021 as the solo project of Tiago Pereira, who had cut his teeth in the underground scene in various rock and metal-adjacent projects. Soon after their formation, the project expanded to involve close friends and musical collaborators, including Rui Moreira, Miguel Pinhal, and Pedro Patricio, transforming Icosandria into a fully-fledged band instead of a mere one-man project.
Icosandria, however, was a brand new and massive undertaking to deliver an emotively charged impact—a motif that fully realized itself already on the band’s 2024 debut album A Scarlet Lunar Glow.
Their goal is to take the dreamscapes of shoegaze/post-rock and blend them with the intensity of metal; to transport the listener to new planes of emotion. The band’s musical influences include Alcest, Les Discrets, Deafheaven, and Opeth—anything that evokes a feeling of melancholy mixed with nostalgia.
Their main lyrical inspirations are drawn from philosophy, human afflictions, and nature, tinted with motives and experiences amassed from everyday life. Catharsis and bittersweet nostalgia form the foundation, onto which the towers of fury and despair, driven by the suffocating present, are built.
As the band move into 2025, ICOSANDRIA are excited to announce this new chapter in their evolving sound with the upcoming release of a forthcoming split EP with close friends in alternative rock band Treewax. This new collaboration pushes their musical boundaries even further, taking their shoegaze influences to new heights, while maintaining a modern edge that blends atmospheric soundscapes with vibrant intensity.
The Void Intention EP marks a significant step in the band's creative journey, capturing both the ethereal beauty and the raw emotion that have come to define Icosandria, while also embracing the evolving landscape of alternative and post-rock music.
Fans can expect a unique fusion of ambient melodies and heavy dynamics, as Icosandria continues to push forward, explore new horizons, and share their emotive sound with the world.

Treewax are an alternative rock band based in Porto, Portugal. Heavily inspired by the great bands of the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, their main goal is to keep the best of rock alive while maintaining a modern and refreshing sound.
The band consists of three members: Gonçalo Ferreira (guitar and vocals), Gustavo Ribeiro (bass), and Francisco Amado (drums). All members have direct influences from alternative rock, grunge, as well as punk rock and pop-rock, making them the perfect mix for high-energy songs that encourage listeners not only to hear them, but to live them.
Since their inception, Treewax have maintained a consistent touring and recording schedule, despite the challenges of their local scene. Their first EP, Tired, was released in August 2019—a 4-track still in demo format, but which proved cohesive and helped define the band’s burgeoning sound.
In 2020, they recorded their debut album, which was released in 2021. Bleak Fall was their first major release, with singles ‘Storge’, ‘Tired’, ‘Sunny Days’ and ‘Wakizashi’ the band's best songs since their inception. The warm reception from the public reassured them that the band was on the right path.
In August 2022, the band returned to the studio to record their second album. With a more cohesive theme, and a rawer sound, it began being promoted with the release of the Sweet Memories EP in January 2023.
Once again, the reception from fans at numerous concerts in 2023 proved to the band that the pace couldn’t slow down, and at the end of June 2023, Treewax released their second EP, Forget You Again. Before revealing the much-awaited complete album in October 2023.
Since the release of Only Yesterday, Treewax has been focusing more on showcasing their live sound, whether in concert or via live sessions, especially with the release of the Calhambirintho Sessions EP, among other releases.
