Peter Xan makes an emphatic return with new single ‘Empty Space’, produced by Dimitri Tikovoi (The Libertines, The Horrors, Blondie) and released via FADER label.

‘Empty Space’ is Peter Xan’s first new music since his 2023 EP GOD SAVE THE KING. A white-knuckle ride of 6 surging guitar tracks which cemented Xan’s reputation as the spearhead of a new unapologetic and urgent brand of indie rock, which he coined “Afrogrunge”.

‘Empty Space’ is instantly familiar and accessible whilst offering something totally new, with walls of distortion, massive drums and a chorus that’s guaranteed to take the festival circuit by storm. On ‘Empty Space’ Peter has also enlisted guitarist Olly Burdon (The Prodigy).

The video shared alongside the track was directed by The video director is Thomas Rawle (Fred Again), shows a performer with tremendous energy and ardour and displays his vital authenticity with an essential blend of style, substance, and swagger.

Speaking on the new track, Xan says: “Empty space is about the vices I used to fill gaps by the loss of my late friend Cane who was a producer, roommate and best friend who passed last year. The relationships I made in the instant aftermath often were used to fill in the gaps where I couldn’t rationalise everything that was going on. Empty Space details running around in empty space with a girl. And how she made me feel during the numbness of that experience.”

Peter Xan’s music has razor-sharp hooks, glistening melodies and a spirit that evokes a lineage of British guitar music spanning 1970s punk to 2000s indie. 2023 EP GOD SAVE THE KING was the end product of a period of profound artistic change and evolution for Xan.

In making that record, Xan delved back into the indie music that he truly loved from childhood, but had to hide when growing up, which re-energised and rejuvenated him to create something that was a purer representation of himself. For his new music, he has looked deeper inside himself and is finding inspiration in the dichotomy of life. Torn between loss and lust, self destruction and growth, Peter Xan is taking the listener on a personal journey of discovery.

By combining a distinctly British style of guitar music with the culture and language (Yoruba) linked to his own Nigerian heritage, Xan has created something truly singular in rock music today. With production on GOD SAVE THE KING from the likes of Fontaines D.C frontman Grian Chatten and Speedy Wunderground production legend Dan Carey, Peter Xan is refreshing rock and roll in a way which is both vital and defiant.

Known for his incendiary live show, 2024 has already seen Peter play packed out shows at The Great Escape and Stag & Dagger, plus sell out headline shows in Paris, London, Manchester and Brighton. The rest of the year is equally crammed including support dates for one of Peter’s favourite bands, The Libertines plus he’ll be performing at the Nine8 Fest @ The Cause in London this October.
