Anonymous Manchester-based cyberpunks Overrider are pleased to announce their return with new single ‘black wings’ set for release on 20th August 2024.

The new single is the first look at a longer body of material set for release later this year, with further details TBA in the near future.

Commenting on ‘black wings’, Overrider says: "This is absolutely one of those cases where 'more is more'. We had the idea for the opening sample as part of the narrative of the album and it was like, okay, let's go with it and do a heavy guitar song. We've done some rock stuff in the past, like Ansible on the first EP, but nothing that's as completely unapologetic as this. More than anything else we wanted to see if it was even possible to make a punchy rock track when you're as janky and glitchy as we are. It was a blast to write, record and John's drums blow the roof off."

The new single comes alongside a special new EP titled 0.1.3 which includes re-worked tracks from their 2020 release cyc|er, which is available to stream and download now on bandcamp.

"There are some tracks we thought were real highlights on Cycler, but were limited by the fact that we were still figuring out what we wanted to do as a band,” says Overrider. “More than that, we weren't as good at mixing or producing. The originals are raw, which is a vibe, but hey, we figured why not give them a re-work as if we'd written them more recently. Of course, as soon as you re-work something that is 'done' it's a deep rabbit hole—we ended up re-recording a lot of stuff and John did new drum parts, but we think the end result is pretty sick. Hopefully fans of that first EP think so too."

Describing themselves as “shoegaze x breakcore, but with the attention-span of Dillinger Escape Plan", there's still enough focus on a power-trio setup of guitar, bass/keys and drums for Overrider to be within the reach of a rock band—early listeners threw comparisons to everything from Aphex Twin to The Mars Volta.

The band have released a steady string of material since their 2020 debut, including re-cycler (2020), re:ntegration (2020), the city eats the stranger//the sky eats the city (2021), kill -9 yr idols (2021), and 2022 standalone singles ‘dayvan cowboy’ and ‘726564 626c7565’.

Their heady mix of post-genre futurism and hacktivist aesthetic has previously drawn praise from progressive music tastemakers and gear aficionados at Guitar World, Everything Is Noise, Arctic Drones, Noizze and more.

Overrider will be revealing further new music and details of their forthcoming long-form release over the coming months.
