Out Now, UK rockers Nine Moons' album of psychedelic blues "Caracaras"

LP out May 3 (Digital, self-released)

Genres: Psych rock, garage rock, acid rock, blues, grunge, stoner

“Caracaras” is psychedelic blues-rock duo Nine Moons’ second full-length, and the pair have expanded their electrifying sound to new horizons. Building off the gritty, classic blues crunch at the root of their self-titled debut, Kenyon Albon and Stuart Masters find themselves soaring along psychedelic passages, earworm hooks, and entrancing solos, fusing psych, stoner, acid rock, and more to create music that goes far beyond blues-informed guitar & drums.

"At times you're travelling full-pelt through a looped-out psych landscape”

Stu’s vocals pierce through the distortion, bright and emotive, while Kenyon’s kitwork is the immovable bedrock on top of which the baritone guitar works its fuzzy magic. The grooves are undeniable, the tones warm and uplifting, and the riffs crushing when needed. The new generation of blues rock is in good hands.

IN THE BAND'S OWN WORDS:

“Nine Moons are a Psych Rock duo from the East of England. Formed in 2020, we channel influences from late ‘60s and ‘70s Psychedelia, Garage and Acid Rock and Blues, through to ‘90s era Grunge, Desert and Stoner Rock.

Our self-titled 2022 debut was recorded in a power trio format, though we (Kenyon and Stuart) performed all musical duties. After touring as a three-piece, we distilled our sound and focused on the duo approach, using baritone guitars to broaden the musical space. With 2024’s release, ‘Caracaras’, at times you’re served crispy, crunchy riffs and heavy blues-inflected grooves, with a side of Brit-Rock vocals, at others you’re travelling full-pelt through a looped-out psych landscape.”

RECORDING "CARACARAS":

“We went back to a room we love the sound of and recorded as much as possible in there, in our own time. Self-producing isn’t always the way forward but we wanted to get the sound that was in our heads and didn’t know how long that would take… plus we have a load of recording gear and didn’t want to rack up studio fees in the process!

We wanted to keep as much of the instrumental stuff as improvised as possible, too. That’s what it’s about for us – obviously there are song structures in there, that’s the foundation of a lot of it, but not knowing what’s going to happen next... that’s what we like best! It keeps us on our toes.”
