Dream-pop artist Lilac Haze reveals debut EP ‘My Dreamworld’

- OCTOBER 27TH 2023

Bath-based dream pop artist Lilac Haze is pleased to reveal her debut four-track studio EP ‘My Dreamworld’, released today, October 27th 2023.

Lilac Haze is the project name for Bath-based songwriter Katrina Swift. Greatly influenced by bands of the ‘80s/’90s, Swift draws inspiration from The Cure, All About Eve, Eva Cassidy and Fleetwood Mac, combining atmospheric and ethereal textures with a sense of nostalgic romance.

Formed in 2023, Lilac Haze’s debut double singles The Ghost That I Once Knew // Lilac Haze were released in March, championed by the likes of RTE, Music Daily and Noctis Magazine. August saw the release of her EP’s first single Daisy Girl, celebrated by Wonderland, Baby Step Magazine and Northern Transmission, receiving airplay from the likes of BBC Introducing and Islington Radio.

Lilac Haze’s debut EP My Dreamworld was co-produced with Calum Wotherspoon (Nightswimming) at Joe’s Garage in Bristol and mastered by Adam Ayan (Paul McCartney, Lana Del Ray, Carrie Underwood), with guitarist Dylan Osafo and drummer Callum Maloney collaborating throughout. The EP explores change, new beginnings, letting go of fear and living in the here and now.

With a background performing across the U.S and Europe fronting ensembles and orchestras and classically trained with a high, gentle voice, Swift’s gentle vocals hauntingly soar upon luscious guitar lines, shuffling drums and delicate synths throughout the EP’s euphoric listen.

Discussing what she hoped to achieve with the EP, Katrina says: “I wanted to create something that would transport the listener to another world where dreams and hopes don’t feel like a million miles away or unreachable, and to know that things can get better no matter how bleak the reality may seem.”

Ahead of the release of the EP came its title track My Dreamworld, released on September 29th 2023, a co-write and collaboration with All About Eve’s Julianne Regan.

Reflecting on the process and what inspired the single, Katrina explains: “Even though we worked remotely, there was always close communication and so it was still a really warm way to work. Julianne created and recorded much of the instrumentation, and once I had my final vocals done, I sent them to her and she worked her magic with the mixing. I know we both feel it was a joy to collaborate with one another, and we’re excited that we’re continuing to create music together. This is a song that reflects a myriad of subconscious feelings and emotions that come alive in dreams, creating their own reality."

Lilac Haze is already hard at work on new material, with releases expected throughout 2024.
